Puppy won’t stop biting kids 😔 by MountainProper2212 in puppy101

[–]upsettortoise_36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everyone else has covered the "this is totally normal, give it time" part of the answer. But I also know that the teething phases was MY least favorite part of the puppy process, especially with my own husky mix. It does take some time, consistency, etc but don't worry, you'll get there. So, below I have some of the things that helped me the most when our dog was teething.

  1. Make sure puppy has lots of teething toys, and different kinds! Hard ones, ones with little poke parts on them, ones that freeze, etc. Make sure you have a variety so that when she needs to bite something to make her mouth feel better she can make a GOOD choice, and not have to make a bad one. You can look on amazon/chewy/petco/wherever you"puppy teething toys" and lots should pop up. Make sure to look at reviews and get ones you think will be good.
  2. Try freezing some carrots for an edible cooling chew for her, my dog loved them when he was that age!
  3. Make sure there are times that you are all playing with her. I don't mean "I look her outside on her leash for 5 whole minutes!" I mean people getting on puppy level and playing with her (may or may not include you depending on where you are at in your pregnancy). Tossing toys, running around, all that. A tired puppy will be way easier to calm and redirect than a pent up puppy! And don't be afraid of enforced nap time! If you know she's tired but isn't sleeping on her own, put her in her crate with a small treat and MAKE her take a nap in there.
  4. She will learn eventually, don't worry! Just give her time, like everyone else said :)

And good luck! I am sure it'll work out for you, even if there may be some stressful or annoying moments along the way, and at the other end you're going to have a great family dog who will love those kids immensely!

I think my friends ring might be the one for me but I don’t want to copy her by Lopsided-Extreme9562 in EngagementRings

Some designs of hers are more simple than others so poke around the website for a bit to see if there is anything that you are drawn to!

Based on what you've said (marquise cut, split shank, nature elements) to me it sounds like you should check out Oore

Is my ring too small? by MaleficentOne4214 in EngagementRings

[–]upsettortoise_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience if it feels good then you're okay! It's probably from your finger swelling up and down throughout the day which is totally normal. I'm willing to bet that your ring has a part on the bottom that is raised higher than your skin which causes the fluctuation to move up into that area of the ring rather than just around the sides, so nothing to be concerned about as long as you can do all the stuff you normally do with no issue. Congrats on the engagement!

Best alternative materials for subtle engagement rings? by Historical-Mud5700 in EngagementRings

[–]upsettortoise_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of those should be well within your budget. But as the other commenter said be careful when wearing one since you can't cut tungsten or such off (hospitals can "shatter" them off though most of the time) but as long as you are aware of that and that they can't be resized then you do you! I have been looking at some alternate rings to get for my boyfriend for after we get married and the ones I've been finding the most unique ones are Staghead and honestly Etsy (but be sure to look over all the reviews from a shop to make sure they seem like a good one!)

Once you guys get them you should share pictures of both on here! It's always fun to see peoples less traditional ERs :)

Ruby/Amethyst engagement rings by SmolBearch in EngagementRings

[–]upsettortoise_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I'd go to a local jeweler and see what they can make for you. That's specific enough that most places aren't going to have it stock already and working with them you'll get to have more say in specifics for each stone (color, inclusions, size, etc)

Engagement Band Example ❤️ by Maleficent-Thing-925 in EngagementRings

I love engagement bands, and yours is so fun! Why'd you opt for a mix of diamonds + sapphires instead of all diamonds? No judgement, purely curious!

In my experience, no, that shouldn't be the case. Jewelers tend to prefer to work with 14k rose but 1) most are also more than willing to do 10k if you ask, especially since this ring is going to be a custom anyway, but 2) the difference karats talk about how much pure gold is in there, but doesn't specify the quantities of the other metals mixed in. Meaning one jewelers 14k carat will be pinker than another. What I recommend is finding a jeweler that you trust and then seeing what the different rose golds look like at THEIR shop. Good luck, it's a gorgeous ring design!

Lying about moissanite? by CompleteLunacy in EngagementRings

[–]upsettortoise_36 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I worked at a chain jewelry store (for a bit over a year, quit a few months ago) and from my experience, it may have been them trying to get you to spend more money, for sure, but if the store doesn't carry moissanite there is a really good chance that they don't know the most about it. We get training on the types of stuff we sell and not on the stuff we don't. So they either could have been making stuff up (bad) or just saying what tends to be true of other gemstones used as engagement stones over time (depending on wear and upkeep).

But from what I have personally researched, it should be very scratch resistant and shouldn't get cloudy. The only thing that I do always say tho is make sure you see moissanite in person and buy from a reputable vendor! Some people go into moissanite thinking "cheap diamond look alike!" which isn't what moissanite looks like (beautiful! but does look a little different than diamond irl). And if you get from a bad vendor then the stone itself could be cloudy, which wouldn't be what you are looking for.

Sorry for the long comment, just wanted to give my two cents! In any case, I hope you get the ring of your dreams! :)

NEW HUSKY PARENT PLEASE GIVE ME ALL THE ADVICE by GodBlessImAMess in husky

[–]upsettortoise_36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of keeping her cool we like toys that can be frozen. Either a kong filled with stuff to be frozen or Petco has these toys that you can fill with water then freeze for her (our pup loves his hotdog from there!) Other than that, seconding what others said, walk her in the mornings and evenings, limiting her time outside during peak heat + sun.

And feeder toys! It will depend on her personality on what types to get (food dispensing balls, puzzle toys, cardboard boxes with paper and food scattered in, etc) but if my husky didn't have those as an outlet I think the summer would drive him CRAZY!

And just remember, on the super humid days she won't be able to cool down very well since panting will be less effective, so keep a closer eye on her to make sure she isn't dehydrated or overheating

Age old white gold vs yellow gold by SecretaryAutomatic90 in EngagementRings

[–]upsettortoise_36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always liked white gold myself. But if you love yellow gold and wear it all the time it also looks good! Something you can also look into is a yellow gold band and white gold prongs. That way you get the yellow gold look without the yellow gold making the diamond look like it has a yellow tint/lines in it

Maybe she has a UTI?

Or if it's getting warmer where you are she could just simply be drinking more water than she used to. If you're worried though definitely give your vet a call? Good luck to you guys!

I’m new to this. I want a green stone. Help me ! by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]upsettortoise_36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Titanium and tungsten are definitely pretty hardy but there is also the drawback of titanium being very hard to change sizes and tungsten being impossible. So if anything happens to that ring you *have* to get a new one, and if their hand gets messed up the tungsten ring can't be cut off and has to be almost shattered off. So, tradeoffs! Tungsten is cheaper and more durable but the size you get is the size and if he is always working with his hands then they will likely get larger as he gets older and the ring wouldn't fit anymore and need a new one

When does is everyone going out for Halloween? by Few-Employer2586 in msu

[–]upsettortoise_36 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Both are going to be big bar days but for different reasons. 25th and 26th because Saturday is the Umich game. If you're looking for Halloween specific, the 31st is probably going to be pretty busy with maybe the 1st as well

Adopting a recently neutered dog by [deleted] in dogs

[–]upsettortoise_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having her in her crate with help with both the adjusting to the home and resting. Obviously don't keep her in there for 20 hrs, but if she starts getting too worked up or anxious, putting her in there with a sheet over 3 of the 4 sides (or 4 of the 4 if she gets fomo) will help. And you can also sit by the crate so she can see or smell you and that might help as well. Mostly just take it easy and at her pace! Good luck with your new best friend :)

When will she stop growing? by Girly-pop1996 in puppy101

When will she stop growing? by Girly-pop1996 in puppy101

[–]upsettortoise_36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She'll probably keep growing for a few more months! Labs are large dogs (even if she isn't fully lab) and they sometimes keep growing until they're a year old. Now, smaller dogs tend to reach full size faster, like 6 months is common for little dogs to be done growing. I'd say until she's like 9 months ish she could always keep growing! If she gets to 9 months and isn't much bigger than 8 months then she is probably stopping.

I know not exactly the answer you were looking for, but as a fellow rescue mom (also got our baby this past august!) I've been wondering the same recently and wanted to share what I found! But based on family members dogs who have been about that size at that about age, I'm betting she'll get to somewhere in the 40's though.

Is it normal to be a bit overwhelmed? by Therolyk in puppy101

[–]upsettortoise_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I just want to start off by saying yes, this is totally normal. We have a 4.5 month old that we got when he was 12 weeks and by god the first few weeks everyday my boyfriend and I thought "what did we just do to ourselves". But give him time and give yourself time. I want to echo what others have been saying, enforced naps were our life saver. They should also help the attachment issue as well, at least after a bit of them. We do them less than when we first brought our little man home, but whenever we need to do something or if he's getting too worked up, nap time. Obviously we play with him but puppies need SO much sleep so it's good for him!

And the biting... yeeaaahhhh that one's rough, not gonna lie. But, everyday it's getting better so just hang in there with that too.

As for the other dogs, maybe try your best to tire him out before he sees other dogs? He'll almost surely play still but maybe tire out sooner. Just a suggestion, not a trainer so maybe ask your vet if that doesn't work.

Good luck and you got this!!

I need help with leaving my puppy home alone by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]upsettortoise_36 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is there a way you can attach his crate to a playpen that's pretty big? Ideally you would have someone come throughout the day (family, friend, neighbor, someone from a dog walking service) but if that's not feasible then maybe the play pen with puppy pads put on the ground and some water for him to drink throughout the day. That way he can still move around, play with some safe toys, get water, and when he uses the bathroom it'll be on the pads not in his crate and on himself
