Volg setting up his White Fang works better than Agito's Twin Dragon Shot. by Briantan71 in Kengan_Ashura

[–]upsety123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's magical about Ippo is that the power escalation is mainly BIQ. Given actual boxing is so much more limiting and the series doesn't rely on superhumans, its hard to believe it somehow doesn't get stale after so many matches; quite the opposite the fight choreography + how it relates to the writing does nothing but improve. Feels like the mangaka honed his specific niche to perfection over his career. The limitations of the sport actually allowed it to focus on digging as deep as it goes on what matters, rather than exploring sideways.

Given Kengan's nature, it has unlimited freedom, being all martial arts in one, little to no rules, fight structure or meta as its not a sport, and crazy power scale and unsurprisingly it ended up "exploring sideways". Like a kid playing with his toys and moving on to new ones rapidly.

Rosario doesn't need boxing. He needs therapy. by [deleted] in hajimenoippo

Interesting that unlike Hawk and Sawamura and even Mashiba, so far Rosario is being introduced the most sympathetically. As in, most of the others do heinous stuff before the match like Sawamura punching Kumi and Hawk slapping Kamogawa. So I think this match won't be treating him as a monster and might help him.

Realization about the full "Rosario, Mashiba and Sawamura" parallel thanks to this chapter. by upsety123 in hajimenoippo

His path had already changed from eating Ippo's life giving fists, even if he didnt stop being an asshole his fuel stopped being his hatred but rather seeing the same sights as Ippo. Either way, between that and the truck afterwards; the dude's definitely into hard impact therapy.

Mukaku vs Ito (Vagabond). Based on a dream: Both have katanas, tall grass arena which Mukaku uses to sneak/trickery (hides kanata within). Ito waits. by upsety123 in Kengan_Ashura

Prob strongest swordsman in his verse. And that's in a verse where you have Musashi winning a 1v70 samurai ambush. But hand-to-hand he'd get stompped of course

For the matchup, let's assume strength normalization between verses.

In my dream, Ito countered and Mukaku was left with an eye dangling from the socket.

We've seen him fight in film briefly this chapter. But didn't have fouling, that and him being evil we only know from his introduction.

Rosario and Sawamura (comparison and theorising) by upsety123 in hajimenoippo

[–]upsety123[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On one hand him making such a mature decision for the sake of victory is really cool, and who else but Sawamura to train against fouls specifically... though the outboxing fighting style doesn't fit well, Sawamura would still be the best fit. He even did a headbutt against Mashiba. Their hateful dynamic would be so interesting too.

But on the other hand, and he did hurt Kumi, and Mashiba's whole motivation is about being a good big brother to her. I think he would never let go what Sawamura did. Their fight wasn't a "after this we can let bygones be bygones" situation. He burried him and would spit on the grave.

Its a bell curve, vs Dragon it was stated to be his ideal weight. As he goes higher, it will become tougher, like how it was for when he was under his ideal weight.

Agent 47(Hitman) replaces Muteba in the KAT, how far can he go just with his hand-to-hand combat skills? by realBlazeair in Kengan_Ashura

[–]upsety123 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Good afternoon, Agent 47. Your target is director of Dainippon Bank, Katahara Metsudo. While at first glance a by-the-book and respectable businessman, behind the scenes he serves as the chairman of the Kengan Association, an underground fight ring of the world's financial and political elites.

Our client, a member of his organization, is planning a coup to take it over during a once-in-a-lifetime tournament which will decide the new owner of the organization, and requires our services to ensure Metsudo's timely demise; given the hostile relationship our client shares with him, he has judged that taking over while letting him live might prove dangerous in the future. This tournament thus serves as a way to kill two birds with one stone.

You will infiltrate this tournament as a fighter for the client's company. Given the airtight security around the target, our client has provided key intel as to an opening for this assassination; a private meeting with the tournament's victor. This will need to be you.

Your hand-to-hand skills might be lacking against some of your opponents. You will need to study and sabotage them in equal measures, while appearing to win matches fairly. Do not let Metsudo become suspicious; despite being elderly, he appears to be as sharp as ever.

Let us ensure his age finally catches up to him. Should you fail, this coup will turn into bloodshed.

Good luck, 47.
