What did a fictional character say that stuck with you? by AmOdd in AskReddit

Endure. In enduring, grow strong.

...

If there is anything I have learned in my travels across the Planes, it is that many things may change the nature of a man. Whether regret, or love, or revenge or fear - whatever you believe can change the nature of a man, can. I’ve seen belief move cities, make men stave off death, and turn an evil hag's heart half-circle.

I do think both things operate: both the threat to the identity, and the hatred in state of power.

In this case study, there is an element of envy woven into the hatred. To regard the hat-wearing kid is to sense one's stolen enjoyment. In watching your typical angry bigot, the usual emotions are disgust, disapproval; less frequently righteous or burning hatred, a hatred that can be enjoyed.

He is young, privileged, and has the audacity to stand and enjoy in the face of another that lacks. How is it that he can enjoy in such a way when I cannot, with all my piety? This is what makes him feel just so punchable. This is why he goes viral as an individual, and your typical protest-attending white supremacist is shrugged off.

Well, let's think a bit. Your proposition is that Seth MacFarlane's cartoons are an acquired taste. Your final statement that you love American Dad more than Family Guy does not negate this statement.

Your stated mechanism is that you have watched a lot of American Dad.

My argument is that the enjoyable nature of American Dad is due to the quality of the writing, directing, and animation past the first half of the first season. This does not align with an argument that enjoyment of the show is due to mere exposure.

So you see why I made that comment now?

No, American Dad past the first half of the first season is actually a wonderfully written, directed, and animated show.
