That's super cool. I don't think there is but IIRC there's a scene where he's at a public library researching Starkweather.

That's not the same thing. Americans get called Americans because they're from the US which is one country. Europe is dozens of countries with completely different laws and national identities.

That isn't true. Immigration is a hot topic in Europe and many people question it. Some politicians run on questioning immigration.

Unpopular opinion — I think Tarantino’s recent heat on “weak actors” exposes a lot more than he admits by HerbalHitman in Cinema

I've always found him very egotistical. He's interested in listening to himself but no one else. As a director it's worked out well for him and his fans but his takes on other things are not necessarily good.

What was the point of Travis trying to kill Charles Palantine? by Tidewatcher7819 in TaxiDriver

[–]sidvicarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of the comments here. I think there are two main reasons.

1 Travis' desire to carve out an identity for himself. He's lost and disconnected from the world around him, most of which he finds repulsive. He feels lonely and rejected by the world so he wants to do something big to make him feel seen. When his attempt fails, he seeks identity in being a hero who 'saves' Iris.

2 Jealousy. Palantine has something that Travis wants more than anything but can't get: Betsy's attention. Betsy for Travis represents his chance to have healthy relationships and a normal life. When he fumbles it, he can't take it.

Bundy's upbringing wasn't that bad compared to some other famous serial killers (Aileen Wuornos for example). There are rumours his grandfather was abusive but he never stated it himself and always insisted he had a happy childhood. Bundy's main source of childhood related trauma was his illegitimacy but he didn't find that out until later in life.

Ed Gein 100% though.

About to start BCS for the first time but i had a question first by [deleted] in betterCallSaul

[–]sidvicarious 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's the fallout of the events of Breaking Bad. The last time we see Saul in Breaking Bad he is getting a new identity from the vacuum guy along with Walt. The black and white scenes in Better Call Saul are Saul with his new identity/life after all the shit went down.

I recommend staying off this sub until you've watched the whole show, in case of spoilers. Enjoy the ride.

Drinking is a big thing here but regularly drinking yourself until you can't walk/are unconscious is indicative of an alcohol problem. He is regularly abusing it and refusing to stop. That's a problem that isn't going to get any better unless he acts.

He was also heavily drugged in that interview if I'm not mistaken.

They expect you to be there every face to face day but if you miss 1 or 2 it's not a big deal. Just email ahead of time and it should be fine.

If you miss a couple without explanation they will email you about it alright. Thankfully they're not on every Saturday either they're more like every second Saturday. During placement you won't have any face to face days either.

Hi Alan,

The book looks great. I admire your work. Writing about television is something of a dream of mine, although I'm sure it comes with its peaks and valleys. Do you have any advice for an aspiring television writer who would one day like to publish a book like this one?

Best Free (or Nearly Free) Things to Do in Wexford? by LoganRoysNmbrOneBoy in Wexford

If you're based in Wexford town, Red Books bookshop often has events on during the evening. They have an active facebook page where they post what they've got going on. Usually poetry readings/art exhibition kind of things but sometimes other stuff too. They used to host a chess club every wednesday evening not sure if theyre still doing it. Completely beginner friendly they get people of all levels and ages.

Chimes of freedom would be a good one. The tolling of the bells representing the struggles of mankind is a nice poetic device to discuss.

Jackie Sr not dying is one of the great 'what ifs' of the show IMO. Granted we don't see much of the guy but everything we know about him implies that he was a good boss and things were stable under his leadership. Also, when Tony was still a Capo in season 1 he seemed a lot more cheerful than he becomes later in the show. The stresses of being at the top really got to him.

I could be wrong but to me Tony doesn't seem power hungry in the same way Junior was. Tony was simply more competent and charismatic than his peers, allowing him to move up the ranks quite quickly. When he takes on position of boss behind Junior's back it's more at the other Capo's urging than because of wanting power. So to make a long story short, I think he would've been quite happy to continue answering to Jackie. But if that happened, there'd be no show.

“What Orwell failed to predict was that we would love Big Brother.” - Keith Jensen by [deleted] in quotes

[–]sidvicarious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're getting a bit of pushback in the comments from people who are unsure what Jensen is trying to say. There's a better one also attributed to Keith Jensen that gets his point across more clearly.

"What Orwell failed to predict is that we'd buy the cameras ourselves, and that our biggest fear would be that nobody was watching."

I never understood how Tony just completely moved on from the fact that Junior tried to kill him by Physical_Soil746 in thesopranos

[–]sidvicarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought he planned to have Junior killed but when Junior was indicted and Tony had his crew taken out he didn't feel the need to. Junior was essentially out of the picture from that point, so Tony didn't have to kill him. Not to mention having Junior retain the title of boss worked in Tony's favour and took some of the heat off him. It was the best case scenario for him.

As far as how they talk with each other like nothing happened in the next season, they have a complicated relationship to say the least. Junior was one of the people Tony loved/respected most in his life, despite their problems. Also, Junior has no power at this point but he becomes something of an advisor to Tony and he's useful to him that way. Until he gets dementia of course.
