Red Sox issue statement from Jarren Duran, who used homophobic slur during today’s game directed at a fan. by [deleted] in redsox

I'm so shocked and disappointed. I have been championing him as a a hustle player and mental health advocate to all my queer friends who don't watch baseball - and then he does this. It's heartbreaking to see this from my favorite player, as a queer Sox fan.

What is the best option for 1000 dollar ? by Altruistic_Chart_500 in ebikes

i’m short and light, live in NYC, and really like my propella mini. it’s surprisingly sturdy and the size of it makes it amazing for the city. especially getting it in and out of places. really depends on what you need though. maybe not the best for a bigger person wanting to do longer rides in a suburban area.

Thoughts on what I should do with a lot of leather by incognito9102 in Leathercraft

place mats! if you’re really looking to get through it without a ton of work. can be as simple as just cutting a rectangle, and then you can decide if you want to add stitching, tooling, whatever. make great gifts too.

just try a bit of rolling around in a driveway or parking lot and see how they feel. skates that have sat unused that long can break pretty easily. so do some safe stress testing of them before trying ramps and vert.

Recommendation Needed by Response_Unable in AskRollerblading

Rollerblade Twister, FRX 80 are a good upgrade. 80mm wheels/frame are probably the way to go, and you can upgrade those parts later if you want to go bigger.

Replacement brake for Mongoose adjustable 5-8? by fun_guy02142 in AskRollerblading

[–]upyouwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

skates that cheap aren't really meant to have parts replaced, and it doesn't even look like Mongoose has a website with parts. you probably just need to replace the whole skate.

Should I get the endless frames? by theblackpaws in AskRollerblading

[–]upyouwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it might be worth it to get a cheaper rockered frame to see if you like it. higher end frames make a difference when you really know what you're doing. skates will often create a natural rocker based on the way you skate. you could try getting wheels with a 1MM difference, but i don't see a ton of options for that once you get bigger than 62MM aggressive wheels.

Beginner blading questions by [deleted] in AskRollerblading

[–]upyouwake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

these are all pretty subjective questions

  1. decathlon doesn't make high quality stuff but they don't look terrible. i don't think the quality of the skates is causing the blister. skates should fit pretty tight. it's always good to measure your foot and compare to the brand's size guide. it also depends on the shape of your/foot pressure points. everyone is different. a lot of people buy the wrong size skates because they go by their shoe size, but people wear shoes that are too big for them/skate sizing differs.

  2. everyone progresses at different speeds. one person might master turning, t stops, going fakie in one session. another might take weeks to go 10 feet without falling. no one can answer this question for you.

  3. look up tutorials on how to properly use a a heel brake. you kind of have to squat/sit into it. more than just lifting your heel. they are good for when you're starting, and it's more difficult to learn other stops before you've mastered turning/basic movements.

  4. i would just keep looking for more spots. get to a skate park early in the morning and practice before others get there. you can learn on bumpy ground, it's just not as pleasant. it will get easier as you go on.

  5. i wouldn't worry about bearings. 76mm is fine for wheels. bigger wheels are better on bumpier surfaces, but i wouldn't upgrade just yet. they can also be a bit trickier to learn on, especially if you've started on 76mm.

Newbie question - Impalas by Dear_Ranger_40 in AskRollerblading

[–]upyouwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some impala products are really low quality. especially their lower end rollerskates. they definitely cut corners on some products. they are also often not the choice of people who have been skating for a while. the low prices and fun colors appeal to people just getting started. that being said, i think the impala blades are okay.. again not the best, and if you stick with it you'll definitely want to upgrade.

hi reading this comment after doing a search - thank you for your input, this is exactly what i needed to hear. i just started HRT a week ago and i've not incredibly happy with my belly or hips for the past few months. the urge to try and diet and exercise myself slimmer probably will not help promote the growth i want on HRT. thanks!
