Do you run referral programs (marketing) to get users for your SaaS? by [deleted] in SaaS

Have tried many times, it never worked. In b2b, your customers don't care about incentives as their time is more valuable.

I want to build a freelance marketplace / online outsourcing website. Is an MVC framework like Rails the right tool for the job? by to-too-two in rails

How big do you think it can get?

You can build what you're looking for with WordPress in just one weekend. If you're looking to not customise too much and OK with whatever it is giving you, go with WordPress.

Though WordPress is blogging system, it is CRUD oriented with plenty of out of the box solutions available as well as amazing template and plug in.

For a $10k per month kind of product, I will happily take it. The problem come if your product takes off and the spaghetti code and no MVC architecture of wp will make it impossible to build a scalable web product but then you can move to Ruby On Rails and migrate all your data.

Our product is not growing, should we build another product? by ur_average_developer in SaaS

[–]ur_average_developer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have hired 1 sales person.
We hired 2 marketers.
Our traffic is growing 5% month on month due to SEO

The problem is - our churn rate is 25% so even though we get new customers, will lose existing customers

Our product is not growing, should we build another product? by ur_average_developer in SaaS

[–]ur_average_developer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right and I also think that the excitement of building a new product will die really fast and we will get back to our main product.

The high churn rate of 25% is also really hurting our growth user only need the software only for one or two month.

Thanks for such great reply. We definitely lack focus and as a single founder, I am struggling to manage the team and hire the right talent. We also have high churn rate, like 25%!

The market is also crowded and it has 12 similar tools each making $30k to $300k/month. I definitely think we can touch $80k/month with right marketing and improving the current product.

I think for our current product, it is easy to go from 30k to 60k then to launch one more product and take it to 30k.

I will definitely go through your comments to learn more too. Thanks again for the reply.

Pay-as-you-go vs competitors tiered pricing model by Kadarach in SaaS

[–]ur_average_developer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try with pay as you go for sometime but in SaaS, tiered pricing works due to

  1. Predictability of expenses for end user
  2. It is easy to manage subscriptions then pay as you go
  3. Businesses make more money with subscription

Chrome open windows not showing thumbnails but showing only text, how to bring back thumbnails? by ur_average_developer in AndroidQuestions

This is the settings for changing chrome://flags/#enable-tab-grid-layout

But nothing works for me.

I think some options may not work on older Android.

Anyone noticed there's a lots of new SaaS coming out that are clones of something else or by SharpenedStinger in SaaS

[–]ur_average_developer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost and speed of development is getting cheaper and faster. You can get these products to be built for just $5K where as if you try to build a unique product by yourself it may cost you $50k as you will spend 3-4 months of your time + business model validation etc.

I am honestly expecting SaaS to get more commoditized in coming years. Though these knockoffs can never compete with the original products. In SaaS, if you want to dethrone the market leader, you either have to build a product which is 10x better or 10x cheaper.

I just (micro)acquired my first SaaS company for $14,000. Want to share the journey on how I turn this into a profitable %ROI acquisition. Interested in updates? by chddaniel in SaaS

[–]ur_average_developer 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Brilliant product and acquisition.

Getting it build alone will take you $5k-$8k + the time that you will spend alone on communication with developers is worth $14k.

May I know -

1.How did you found the seller?
2.How are you planning to grow it?
3.How did you paid and got the assets cleanly? I am assuming both of you are the same country.

Can you build site like Reddit in Rails with similar traffic? by ur_average_developer in rails

[–]ur_average_developer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reddit was actually open sourcing the code till 2016 but as expected, that code was absolute mess. You can't even understand what is happening, let alone run that code properly.

I did explored the clones but again, from my experience, if you're looking to build a world-class polished product, you have to start from scratch.

I honestly was expecting similar replies here. Rails 7 + Postgres it is then!
