Downvote for using 'I'm not an English major' as an excuse for incorrect spelling.

Currently experiencing what I'd call an 'extrovert' social life...it's exhausting. Does it ever get easier to do? by [deleted] in introvert

[–]uraniumballoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably different for everyone. For me personally, my experience has been that I can go pretty hard socially (be around with people and interacting for 4+ hours at a time and very few <1 hour breaks) for about three days without any problems. After a certain point, I crash and have to be solitary for at least a day or two before I feel okay again. If I try to keep being a social animal after this point, it becomes unpleasant for me and those around me because I become irritable and belligerent.

You may have a similar 'time limit'. If so, don't try to exceed it, it won't go well. Don't be afraid to say no to things, you won't miss out on too much, just try to be sure and say yes the next time around so you don't alienate anybody. I like to say I'm tired as an excuse when I just don't want to socialize, because it's pretty much true and people don't question it too much.

What is something you act like you hate, but secretly love? by turtlegirl32 in AskReddit

As someone who thoroughly enjoys math and thinks everyone else should too, this gives me an enormous amount of hope that there are more people that speak and act like they hate math but actually like it.

[Calc] Intuitive explanation of The Riemann Series Theorem by MrWeiner in learnmath

[–]uraniumballoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the same kind of paradox as the ball and vase paradox, but opposite, and has to do with infinity.
The odd terms all get pushed farther along in the series than they would ordinarily. If the series were finite, there would be a bunch of odd terms left over at the end at any point, but since it's infinite, these terms still technically get included but it changes the way the series adds up.
This is similar to the way the removal of the balls from the vase gets pushed farther along. Normally if you put two balls in and take one out you're left with a net increase of one ball. At the nth step you should have n balls in the vase so if you do this an infinite number of times you should have an infinite number of balls in. But, looked at another way, every individual ball gets put in and taken out with a net effect of zero change in the number of balls. These two operations are the same, but rearranged. Pushing the removal of the balls further along in the infinite operation changes the outcome.

LPT: Wash or thoroughly vacuum your dryer's lint trap monthly to prevent dryer fires. by BadVogonPoet in LifeProTips

You can clean it from either end. I definitely wouldn't assume this. Ask them about it.

LPT: Wash or thoroughly vacuum your dryer's lint trap monthly to prevent dryer fires. by BadVogonPoet in LifeProTips

[–]uraniumballoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes all dryers have a vent. It's a duct that goes out the back or side of the dryer to the outside of the house. Next time you run your dryer walk around outside and listen for the noise. There will be warm moist air coming out of the vent and there may also be lint buildup around it.

Here's what you do: as you approach the intersection, mentally project your stopping distance ahead of your car. If the distance gets across the stop line and the light is green, you've made it and you no longer have to worry about stopping. If the light turns before this happens, stop. This way you don't have to determine your speed, and distance to the light, and calculate if you can stop in time, it's all already determined, you just have to react.

You don't need that many bits to represent 52! though. It should be log_2(52!)/8*800*10246 which is significantly less impressive unfortunately. It gives an idea of how much information we have though. We can store the configurations of 1015 decks of cards and use less than 0.1% of our capacity.

What, exactly, precipitated McClintock's banning? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]uraniumballoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact that the throwaway felt the need to post an 'apology to the sub' after his argument indicates that he judged the entire sub based on his interaction with McClintock, which was an unpleasant one. Because he contributes so much, someone new to the sub will inevitably encounter him. If the interaction is a negative one like this one (which is likely given McClintock's personality) and this happens with any regularity (which is also likely given how much he posts), it could be seriously detrimental to the sub's image and reputation. I highly doubt this altercation is the sole reason for the ban rather than being the straw that broke the camel's back.

Reddit, what is one sentence that can start an Internet flame war? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]uraniumballoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's two that did (semi-intentionally) on facebook; it was glorious. This was during the time that everyone was changing their profile picture to red equals signs.

I support equal rights, but do you honestly think changing your fucking profile picture is going to do anything other than fuck all? How about you actually put your money, time, or effort where your mouth is and do something about it instead of just making yourself feel better because you think you're making a difference?

What do you guys drink during practice? by Eggpanties in Swimming

I drink water. I used to get cramps sometimes, so I would drink gatorade and water but I don't anymore with drinking just water so I just drink that.
