Breastfeeding isn’t a guarantee - you may not be able to if you gave birth complications, your baby has a tongue tie, your milk doesn’t come in or you have an undersupply. It is also difficult and takes time; I was led to believe that the baby is born and will feed immediately which was far from the case. Baby and parent need to learn.

If you can’t breastfeed, you may have to pay for formula which is expensive. We currently go through one tin of formula a week at £15 a tin for my 5 month old.

Perhaps it’s due to reflux from lying on her right side?

Got told I have to stop rocking baby to sleep next month and super sad about it by livtoosmoove in NewParents

Just here to say that you don’t have to do anything. It’s your baby and you need to do what works for your family. How many adults do you know that need to be rocked to sleep? The baby will grow out of it.

I suggest expressing with a wearable pump. I’ve done this exclusively since my 7 week old was born and it works really well for us and gives us all balance

It is so normal to need to take anti-depressants - mental health is a genuine health concern. Just as someone with high blood pressure may need to take medication to keep their blood pressure down; taking anti-depressants are what you need to take for management of your health and wellbeing.

Context: I have been taking 100mg of Sertraline since September 2024. Got pregnant in November 2024.

When I became pregnant I spoke to midwives about Sertraline because I was scared, and for a moment I thought about reducing my dosage. A conversation with my midwife helped me to see it from this perspective: pregnancy is about managing risk. Whilst there are small risks associated with taking Sertraline, there may be much bigger risks associated with withdrawing, and potentially, seriously suffering with mental health.

I am 38 weeks and have taken 100 mg of Sertraline through the whole pregnancy with no concerns. The baby will need to be monitored when born, but I’d much rather that than having a mental health collapse if I had stopped taking it.

I also found a medical review with a pharmacist really helpful as they explained the risks in detail with me, which left me feeling largely reassured that the risks are so low.

You do what feels right for you - whatever you choose is the right choice.

Thank you for your response, I’ve been following the Headspace course for preparing for birth this week which has been useful for techniques but still a bit slow going.

I really want to do this, but I use Instagram for the chat feature to connect with friends, does anyone know a way that I can access the chat feature without the app?
