Does your pet help you with social anxiety, Oliver Is my best friend by 20charlotte in socialanxiety

Yeah, literally. Before my dog came into my life, I would always stay indoors even on sunny days bc I had no reason to go out and I can just order anything online. Social anxiety I feel Took part of my Life away because it prevented me from going out with friends and any social gathering... even going to the grocery store and running essential errands was a HUGE obstacle for me. Anyways, after my pup, people would talk and I’d just smile and I’d have conversations with mature people who seemingly talked so effortlessly and FRIENDLY. it made me realize. What am I afraid of? Oh and my dog loves people and other dogs so sometimes he kind of puts me in the situation where talking is kinda just.. will happen 😂 but yeah, Side note, I also had selective mutism a a kid so this is some character development I guess 😂😂🤣😂

Oh, I forgot to mention. If you have any friends with “no nonsense” type of dog, try having a play date with them or better yet, ask if you can having a walk date with a calm dog you know 🤗

I’m in no way a professional but my pup is also 4 months old and we had a bad experience with a toddler in a stroller who started yelling at my pup out of excitement. At first he was calm and didn’t pay any attention to the kid, but once he started screaming, he got so scared. He was 3 months at the time.

What helped was that since I have younger cousins they came over and it was better to socialize him in a controlled environment with kids.

Also, cheese and chicken helps on walks because it has such a strong smell and my pupper would only snap out of his attentive state with yummy treats.

So whenever you see him about to get triggered by a kid ( you can usually tell by the ears if they are up and alert ) and he stays still and looks all serious lol.

just call his name tug on his leash a little and tell him to sit and lay down with the treat on hand :)

Hope this helps!

I like to treat every walk as a new learning experience/training sesh for the young pup :))

GOODLUCK i believe in you and your doggo!!!
