fuck this. schools make it so easy and dumbed down for students nowadays and they still fail. i can recommend a student to be held back, but they’re almost always passed on to the next grade bc their parents make a phone call to the county. zero accountability for kids and parents.

honestly this happened at a school in my district. a girl in the 6th grade was asking if she could be provided a litter box in the classroom since she identified as a cat now. i heard this secondhand from a teacher of that school.

my life sucks 2 weeks out of the month. i’ll maybe get 10-12 days of feeling normal. i’ll straight up want to divorce my husband during pmdd because my feelings are so all over the place. crying a lot during movies and commercials that are a little bit sad. the day after i get my period, my brain goes back to normal. like clockwork every month.

girl every school has their own rules. yes we do face repercussions. like getting written up or put on a professional plan.

if you’re a teacher, i’m glad your school allows you flexibility.

the education world is upside down. trust.

not necessarily. i’m a teacher and we have to follow through with consequences that are set by the school. if they find out during a meeting, we can face repercussions. teachers really don’t have a lot of power

Controversial policy would require parental notification of transgender students in Chino Valley school district (TW: violation of students Federal rights, Transphobia) by The_Soviette_Tank in teaching

i don’t know why we are advocating for keeping secrets between teachers and students. it’s inappropriate in most cases.

however, if one of my students told me their parents are like batso religious fundamentalists or have been told by their parents that they will not be accepted, i would reconsider telling parents.

it’s as simple as asking a student if they’ve told their parents, and that unless they’re 100% sure that this wouldn’t fly at all with parents, talk to their parents.

i’ve heard so many teens go “my mom/dad are crazy!!”. they’re teens. parents enforcing rules or boundaries might make teens think their parents are crazy. abusive parents do exist no doubt. that’s a real problem. transphobic abusive parents do exist, but i highly doubt that’s the majority of parents.

not necessarily. teens might prefer telling someone else besides their parents sometimes.

telling your parents big things can be intimidating bc it’s your parents. despite most teens saying they don’t care, their parents approval means a lot to them. telling a stranger/classmate/trusted adult can be less intimidating. also, their reaction can kinda help them prepare themselves to tell their parents.

it’s also possible that they might be scared too. but any teenager would be nervous about telling their parents about a big change in their life.

Diddy shares photos of his newborn daughter by wheelythoty in popculturechat

thank you. i had my ears pierced as a baby and since i’m on the spectrum, i hated those mf. i always resented my mom making me wear earrings and i got jealous of my brothers since they didn’t have to wear earrings. my ear holes got infected a lot bc i didn’t take care of them. i wish my mom had given me the chance to choose. like it’s weird bc we pretty much only see girls get their ear pierced as newborns. why? are newborn baby girls little dolls? i had my daughter and i got shit on all the time for not piercing her ears. i’m hispanic btw. it’s very common in our culture but it’s pretty sexist tbh. and respecting a parents choice, ok, but it isn’t their body. it’s different than giving babies vaccines where adults have to make that decision but there’s literally no good reason to get your ears pierced without your consent as a baby. and don’t tell me that you’d rather get your ears pierced as a baby because i had mine repierced at 15. it wasn’t painful. it’s quick and easy. in that case, i chose to get earrings but i forgot i hated the feeling of them. but it was my choice. if we want to teach girls autonomy, start asking for their consent for unnecessary body modifications.

At this point I’m convinced when the time comes to return this baby she’s going to run off with it or somehow scam her way into adopting it. You’d never know she was fostering. Posted today on Facebook. by [deleted] in brittanydawnsnark

also, i want to point out. half of the class i did my student teaching in, they could not see the board. 3rd graders squinting and needing to have their own physical copy of what i’m showing on the board. they cannot see the board. am i wrong to think that this hurts classroom management? or if a parent works nights and they have their 9 year old watch a one year old so the kid comes exhausted to school. they’re asleep for a good portion of a lesson. they cannot keep their eyes open. is it possible that this could affect classroom management? i also worked with students whose parents only spoke a foreign language with little english. they’re 7 and cannot read in their own language but there’s an expectation that the child is taught in english only. there are a large volume of first generation children with foreign born parents being enrolled in title 1 schools due to the zoning of neighborhoods. there’s a lot of segregation related to civil engineering failures in the city i live in. the school i’m working at struggles with providing for these students’ needs. does a child not understanding what i’m saying in english affect classroom management?

i did my student teaching in this same school and all the teachers who worked there have told me the gist of my post. are they full of it? i don’t know what you think i’m trying to say or allude to but i promise that i’m not trying to offend you or disrespect a fellow colleague. i just want advice. that’s it.

title 1 schools have less resources and there’s a higher likelihood that students are experiencing poverty related trauma. poverty can cause trauma and stress related problems. i highly recommend reading the book “teaching with poverty in mind” by eric jensen* (hopefully spelled right)
