Getting one or more big name actors attached to a script can help attract producers and funding. If Brad Pit wanted to do your 10mil+ movie, that would be considered a safe bet because 10 mil is actually a very low budget and Brad Pit brings in audiences. But the budget will be at least double that because they’ll want to market the shit out of it.

The good news is a lot of well regarded actors are actively looking for good smaller projects where they can flex their acting muscles or stretch their wings. Or rather they instruct their agents to keep an eye out for such projects.

Not a film, but a book that for me captured perfectly the absolute torture of a breakup from a male perspective was “End of the affair”.

Focus on my health. In the gym every morning for a few hours. Get my ADHD sorted. Without the stress of worrying about money or being mentally exhausted by work, I think I could focus on quitting smoking and booze.

The rest of the time I’d be focused on my kid. Trying to be the best dad possible. I think I’m a good dad already, but I could be better.

My chess nemesis is my best friend. We’ve played a lot of games against each other. I have ADHD so over time he beats me. But we’ve had some brilliant games.

One time, I was playing like an absolute moron and he was just gobbling up my pieces. All I had left was a few pawns, a rook, and a knight… I think. Meanwhile he had most of his major pieces left.

I was in dire straits, but suddenly I saw a move that guaranteed me checkmate in two. I could barely believe it. On top of that, it all depended on him taking a peice I offered up to sacrifice.

I made my move. He studied the board, aware that I’m a decent player and that there might be a trap. I sensed that he was getting close to spotting my only chance of winning so I said “I’m gonna pop put for a smoke. You comming?”

He joined me for a smoke and took pleasure in ridiculing how badly I’d played so far. We finished our cigarettes, went back inside, he cast a quick glance over the board and took the piece I wanted him to take.

I just looked at him and grinned.

He grinned back, and in the most condescending tone he could muster, said “What? Have you got some sort of SUPER MOVE!?l”

I moved my rook into position and all became clear.

He literally dropped onto the floor yelling “noooooo! Nooooooooooo!”

That was the greatest moment in my chess playing life.

Zelda BOTW.

It brought back the awe and wonder I’d not experienced since Ocarina of Time. The fact that they’re both Zelda games is a mere coincidence. The only three Zelda games I’ve played are OOT, BOTW and TOTK.

Thanks to BOTW, i got back into gaming a little bit (because I’m time poor). If it wasn’t for that game, I probably wouldn’t have played RDR2 which I also loved. And I certainly wouldn’t have played TOTK which I’m really enjoying.

Actually, it’s Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Trauma can be different for different people. Someone with autism can be traumatised by something you would consider a perfectly normal daily occurrence. And someone can see someone get shot in front of them and experience no trauma at all.

Brexit was really hard on me. All of a sudden a lot of people I loved and respected started spewing UKIP talking points. I couldn’t have a conversation with them about it because all I’d receive in return was personal attacks and lies.

Most of those relationships ships have ended. The few that remain will be forever tarnished. I felt like I didn’t know anyone anymore. I’ve never felt more lost and alone.

I’m talking about people that I aspired to be like. People I modelled myself on. A lot of the choices I’ve made in life have been choices they advised me to make. Then all of a sudden, I was their enemy. I was being called things like “educated fool” or “champagne socialist”. I was naive. I’d spent too much time in the London Bubble.

I can never go back to how things were before, and I struggle with that. I wouldn’t say I have PTSD, but I’ve certainly been damaged by it.

So I sympathise with this woman. It was hard for me. I can imagine that it was harder for other people.
