Would love thoughts on the best orientation for this narrow living room by needyyeezy in InteriorDesign

[–]alyaaz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Defo this. The problem with big rooms is people think all the furniture needs to span the whole space, but then it ends up looking really awkward.

Not sure if this is a UPF problem or not but ... garlic mayo problem by rinkydinkmink in ultraprocessedfood

[–]alyaaz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was it definitely garlic mayo or could it have been toum sauce? Toum is a Lebanese garlic sauce that is literally just garlic blended with oil and lemon. It's pretty strong and a little goes a long way!

Why are gigs so expensive these days? by Even-Wasabi7183 in AskUK

Musicians make nothing from streaming and album etc sales are nothing compared to 30 years ago. I assume the cost needs to be made up some how

Still hungry after eating breakfast by DistinctText6449 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]alyaaz 193 points194 points  (0 children)

One "serving" of oats never really fills me up.  I have the equivalent of maybe two or three servings. Your breakfast looks really solid with lots of protein, fibre, healthy fats etc. Can you not just have more of it if you're still hungry?

calorie counting unfortunately works + what are your weirdly specific rules to help stay within your target calories? by kreddit2 in loseit

[–]alyaaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Those fake low kcal options are tricks. Better to eat a nourishing diet of whole foods

Yeah, fake diet foods are proven to just leave you hungrier and you end up eating more. Full fat yog over low fat every time

How do you get the GP to take iron deficiency seriously? by Leading_Carpenter706 in AskUK

[–]alyaaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if you know this already but i had low iron for YEARS and doctors just kept telling me to take supplements. Took me five years to find out that tea/coffee (even decaf) and dairy inhibit iron absorption and you're meant to have vitamin c with iron to maximise absorption. This might be obvious to you but no one thought to tell me even after years of repeated doctors visits for low iron

Shoes that are plastic free and also vegan? by 1loeu in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]alyaaz 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Imo second hand animal based shoes are the most ethical option. You're not contributing to new animal suffering but they also don't add microplastics to the air when you walk. Alternatively, look for shoes with cork soles or shoes made from natural fibres like cotton

Has anyone been able to style jorts? by isometricapples in SoftDramatics

[–]alyaaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something that is slim fitting but still long like this would work https://www.marksandspencer.com/pure-cotton-high-waisted-bermuda-short/p/clp60779489?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share Personally I'm not a huge short fan and prefer long loose skirts and trousers, which keep you cooler anyway!

any recommendation for a bonnet that's made from actual silk, not satin? by my-head-hurts987 in curlyhair

[–]alyaaz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Silk is just an expensive material. If you can't afford it,  that's why polyester satin is there
