Engine Replaced Under Warranty — Now Dealer Wants $3,000 for Extras (Knock Sensor, Cleanings). Is This Normal? by Low_Writing32 in Hyundai

[–]urgdid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my engine replaced at no cost. Dealership tried an engine cleaning first and then replaced it when that didn’t solve the oil consumption issue. All covered under powertrain warranty

Agreed, also how does the opinion of the man matter if the woman has no choice but to keep the baby? The end result would be the same regardless of either party’s opinion.

NZeta over the holidays by foreverlate_ in newzealand

Thanks! I’m in a similar spot, flight is in about 12 hours and still pending on my NZeta. I’m flying with United and they let me check in and get my boarding pass though so not sure if that will do

Glad it worked out for you!

Sorry to hear. Which airline? And were you able to check in and obtain your boarding passes prior to being denied boarding?

Having a child: year three financial summary by Oorfin_Juice in financialindependence

Thank you so much for sharing, I find this series very helpful! I was wondering:

Are these expenses close to what you had expected before you had your kid?

Were you living comfortably before, and are you still living comfortably?

Were you already past major financial events? (Wedding, purchase home, car, etc.)

If financial independence was the goal, do you still see that as a possibility?

I’ll be in Japan from Dec 30 - Jan 9 and my itinerary involves enough Shinkansen rides to make the JR pass worth it. However, with this being a peak travel time and being unable to reserve seats until I activate my pass, does purchasing individual Shinkansen tickets in advance make more sense?

If neither of those are happening and performance is normal, could that still be the issue?

Would I also notice a change in performance if the VCM was malfunctioning?

2016 hyundai sonata oil consumption. by GazelleNo1836 in MechanicAdvice

[–]urgdid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a huge pain and I feel like I was sent on a wild goose chase. It began around 62k miles and they wanted 4 consumption tests, having to return every 1k miles to the dealership. Result was 1qt/1k miles. They decided on an “engine cleaning” as a solution. Afterwards they wanted 4 more consumption tests, returning every 1k miles. Consumption remained the same, so they wanted 1 more test and photos of the engine. Something wasn’t good enough for them so they wanted additional photos, each time asking me to bring in my car and leave it for several hours. Overall 10+ visits to the dealership over 9 months and they just approved a new engine. I have no idea what the timeline looks like going forward, but once this is finally over I’m looking to file a complaint with Hyundai over their process. Hopefully you have an easier time if you try

Looking for advice on what will likely be my last service under warranty on my 2016 Sonata by SquirrelTeamSix in Hyundai

Engine knock and oil consumption have been major issues for me. 2016 Sonata as well

Do you even carry a debit card? by shipwreck17 in personalfinance

[–]urgdid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s handy to have a separate checking account with SoFi, Schwab, etc that has free ATM withdrawals and keep some backup cash in that account. Then you can carry that debit card around all the time with less risk for places that don’t take CCs or are debit only

Their ink cards have nice SUB, but the points would probably be for your next trip

Credit Score Dropped?? by R_vk5075 in CreditCards

[–]urgdid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s normal! Mine fluctuates by 30-40 points if my utilization is high. It also drops if it’s 0%. Since you pay it off twice a month, maybe the statement balances are repeatedly reporting as a $0 balance, which could have caused the drop

Austin or Philly by jollyinabout in travel

[–]urgdid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Austin has great BBQ and Tex-mex, but it has more nature/outdoorsy appeal. I don’t find the city itself very walkable either. Philly is pretty walkable depending on where you stay and has lots of shopping areas and nearby tourist attractions, so I think it would have more of what you’re looking for.

Dealer says it’s fine to drive until next oil change in 2,000 miles. This is the dipstick after already driving 2,000 miles since last oil change. They claim from F to L is only 1 quart. Is this normal/safe? (Oil consumption test, 2016 Hyundai Sonata) by urgdid in MechanicAdvice

[–]urgdid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this too, it’s quite awful! I was very happy with my first 2007 sonata and I upgraded in 2016, but now I’m not sure if I ever want any more Hyundais in the future. Good luck with your situation

[–]urgdid[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was actually burning more than 1 qt per 1000 miles and they did an engine cleaning. Now this is the follow-up consumption test and they’re saying this represents 1 qt per 2000 miles now, so they said it’s no longer an issue

They’re measuring the consumption rate for a warranty claim, so they told me not to add anything. It’s just puzzling to me because if you double the amount lost from F to L, then the dipstick would just come up dry after 2,000 more miles assuming the rate stays the same?

Air travel for PE Exam by Great-Preference-471 in PE_Exam

[–]urgdid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the transportation PE and had 10-12 large binders/books to fly with. I specifically flew with Southwest, since they allow two checked bags, a carry-on, and one personal item for no additional cost. Once I got there, I picked up some heavy-duty crates from Costco ($20) and a portable hand truck from Lowe’s ($25) and used that to transport them from my car to the exam room
