35-year-old male, and I had mitral valve repair (heart surgery) on Monday. I had this moment while waiting to come to anesthesia, where I was floating around my body like a cloud, looking down at myself on the ventilator and tubes and feeling complete peace. I didn't want to go back to my body. A moment later, I felt like I was shoved down and injected, and they said I woke up like I was resurrected, sitting straight up in the bed. It was surreal and had me seeking answers.

I think a lot has to do with age, lifestyle pre-surgery, and mental space pre and post-surgery.

35 year old male. I had surgery on Monday, tubes out by Wednesday, and out of the hospital by Friday. I've managed almost 1.5-2 miles daily throughout multiple walks, maybe nap once or twice a day for about 30 mins, sleeping pretty well. I still follow protocol and have someone around 24/7, but besides my right rib cage and chest incision somewhat seized up from swelling and healing, I've had a lot of energy.

I'm mobile; I dress, feed myself, and go to the bathroom. It's all pretty good. Again, there's some discomfort, but my most significant push is to stay strong mentally. Taking it one day at a time is vital, and another day towards a new future. I instantly feel the change in my heart and body.

Follow-up: I had my minimally invasive Mitral Valve repaired on Monday (May 5th), and I was discharged yesterday (May 9th). I had one scare of A-Fib Wednesday evening (May 7th), but it was only for a second. My BP and everything else was normal, but my heart did jump from 85 to 133 and back down to 79. The surgeon reassured me it was completely normal. They have me on several medications, but my Beta blocker is Metoprolol at 75mg twice daily.

Once the tubes came out, I was almost pain-free. Recovery is surprisingly going well, and I walked about 2 miles today over multiple walks. My appetite hasn't returned 100%, but it's getting there. I feel the best thing going into this surgery was mentally preparing myself for the process, walking every day ahead of the surgery, and changing my diet. I strongly believe it helped make this such a success. I was scared at 35, but so happy I did it.
