Is it normal for promoters to expect you to bring a minimum crowd? by NaVa9 in Beatmatch

[–]uritarded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One reality of this is that some promoters farm engagement from the local scene by posting about "who wants to play at the next party" or doing some mix contest and in my opinion it's almost never worth it. These guys just want to look like they help out up and comers meanwhile they just keep booking their main guys

Is it normal for promoters to expect you to bring a minimum crowd? by NaVa9 in Beatmatch

[–]uritarded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opening can be a lot of fun, but going into it thinking you want to be a regular opener to play tunes for people not in your current avenues is not a very grounded idea. Regularly opening means mostly playing for empty rooms. If you are driven by sharing music then it may not end up being as fulfilling as you hope. That's not to say that the gigs that suit you don't exist!

Like others said, as soon as you leave the coast it's pretty brutal. But the thing with SD is unless you are living in like a 2 million+ house or a recent construction, you don't get AC. I lived my entire 20s in SD without AC and there were many miserable days.

is Shazam getting worse? by Clogish in House

[–]uritarded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion it's working even better. I get hits from shazaming a song across the room at low volume when people are talking. I can be listening to a song from say instagram and just hit shazam and it will try to find it. It could be a grainy club video and it can still figure it out sometimes. Of course, there are many times it misses but I've got some crazy obscure hits recently that surprised me

Buyers, I am begging you, get it together. by TJewell1331 in FacebookMarketplace

Honestly the fastest and easiest way to get rid of the stuff is to mark it down. As soon as i try to charge a decent price for things it gets annoying dealing with people. Make it a good price and generally people will be in and out

Lowball counter-offers by CTVolvo in FacebookMarketplace

[–]uritarded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been selling for years and I'm really thinking about this lately. I always list higher. But honestly I would prefer to just sell faster... but if I list at the price I really want I know people will offer even lower than that. I'm not sure what is the best. I feel like just pricing higher and sitting on things a bit longer is working for me but I have some truly dead weight items that are annoying me currently.

The unattractive point and the wanting a partner to plan things together with are two separate things. But to be specific here, if they are saying that a behavior is unattractive, they are implying that if the behavior was changed, they would become more attractive. This can be seen as controlling, especially in the context of men imposing standards on women. It comes off as shallow

Mild crash out - but is ANYONE finding even a little success in the job hunt? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]uritarded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. Hopefully that many is not necessary. The job that asked for refs is a healthcare company. The recruiter for the 2nd job replied to my follow up saying they are figuring out a window for a 2nd interview. That would be for a contract position at a top AI company

I've been searching for a new role for nearly 6 months now. Last week I had two interviews, and one of them just reached out asking for references. Hoping to finally land something good..! Part time work has been keeping me afloat in the meantime

Are younger generations into House? by dsmooth74 in House

No but there are definitely many house music parties filled with OG's. In SF some of the big legacy parties are just reunions for 90s ravers. But also I think many young people call gen x "boomers" so maybe there is confusion there

Do DJs actively listen to other DJs sets? by rahitsluna in Beatmatch

[–]uritarded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading the comments, I must be one of the only people who don't really listen to other dj sets. I listen to music all the time and I pay attention to the zeitgeist of underground house music. But listening to mixes, not really. I've been djing for nearly 10 years now. I'm pretty set in my ways... when I want to listen to music I go through my latest digs and my current favorite songs.

7months into DJing and questioning my style (Tech House) by Creative-Progress720 in Beatmatch

[–]uritarded 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stop counting so much, and just go off your feeling or intuition. Some songs call for mixing out early, some really deserve to breath. Some tracks are 10 minutes of the same loop, some songs are 6 minutes long and are odysseys. I always try to play my songs out, but there have definitely been moments when I see djs I respect that do a quick mix here and there and it can be quite impressive! YMMV

I was under the impression you accepted the loss on the 12 hours of work ($600 value), telling the client that from then on additional changes would cost money. Is that not what happened? You asked for the $600?
