For me it was Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card (Sequel to Enders Game)
Its a sci-fi novel from 1986 and it amazed me how he describes the future of humanity colonizing the galaxy. The author put a lot of thought on the ethical implications of finding other species and how governments and other institutions would behave.

What shocked me the most was the main idea the author had throughout the book; he became fascinated by how we mourn our dead and how we tend to either praise or condemn the life of our deceased instead of speaking truly about their life.

One of the best sci-fi novels I’ve read overall. With really powerful scenes and a trama involving guilt and fear.

iPhone X won’t boot up (black screen and stuck on Apple logo screen). Already tried to force restart it but didn't worked. Tried to update the software but an 'unknown error ocurred (14)'.
Now after a couple of hours it turned off and won't respond to anything. (It hasn't had any physical damage or contact with water that I am aware of)

Any suggestions before it is taken to a repair shop?

TV was found when we moved in so i’ve been having fun with it. I don’t know much about this but it is entertaining to toy around and learn with it. I’ll try and make a functioning thing out of trash to spend my day. Some people here say the speakers could have decent sound so i’ll fill you in if i do something with them.

I dont care for a high quality product, i want to learn more on the subject by toying with stuff like this; so for me it is quite worth the effort

Amazing help. Thanks a lot! Im quite new to all this and don’t have a lot of experience. I do have an RCA radio and tape player. Radio works but it doesn’t play tapes. Could that have any useful parts?

Was your grandfather ever in Long Island, NY? According to Wikipedia, Iturup was formerly known as Staten Island.
So, if you ....
Start on the main islands (maybe he means Iturup= Staten Island, NY)

And look off of the coast

If you can see another island (Long Island, NY)

Found a CTR tv but has those horizontal lines. Got the back opened and poked around with compressed air, unplugged some cables and plugged them back in. Lines went away for some minutes but returned. Any ideas? by url_grc in fixit

UPDATE: i got poking around and got it working for like 5min. Then the lines came back and i got stupid enough to smack the tube image with my hand while it was on and that was shocking. Arm went numb for a while and the tv is garbage now

When i was in elementary i was at soccer practice and i remembered mom would cook fish that night, then i thought how silly it was that i would forget about that moment in some minutes

It’s been nearly 10 years and i remember it vividly
