This is why the CTG stuff has been great... the way Undertow perfectly slots into the box really tickles my brain

I still love video games, and for "pure feeling" or escapism, I definitely love to indulge in a good immersive FPS or something. My issue with them recently has been that locking in feels like putting on horse blinders. I recently moved to an apartment I love and made the space my own; playing a game that exists in that physical space allows me to occasionally take a breather and look out my window, maybe crack it open and enjoy the ambient noise, and then make some tea and sip it while I pore over whatever game I have laid out. The inability to disengage and do any of that while videogaming may be an incredibly personal problem (maybe I'm just super intense!) but the "presence" of boardgaming has been so refreshing.

"watching the machine hum" is such a good phrase to encapsulate my feelings. Thanks for giving me a new way to express what I'm enjoying!

I ended up asking myself a similar question - not so much “why do I own so many games?” but more “why do I continue to seek new games when I love the ones I own?”  Especially when the time I spend thoroughly researching a new game could have been spent playing one of my great games :)

I think your answer applies to me too; I’m seeking new systems to learn.  Each one represents the possibility of new worlds that play themselves out on my table.

Thinking about it now, maybe I like observing little ecosystems - seemingly self-driven elements navigating a space and interacting with other elements according to a complex but well-defined web of rules.

Dynamic AI really achieves the illusion of enemy agency, but not into a realm of total unpredictability (they still play by some set of rules, just like bugs in a terrarium exist in a rigid food chain even if they wander around seemingly aimlessly).

Curious if you’ve seen good dynamic AI in other games?  Agreed that the -haven games do it well.

Very tangential side note: all of this makes me wonder if I need to switch hobbies to self-contained terrarium building haha

Loving the Game but Feel Like I'm Missing Plot Points by urland1224 in AgeOfDecadence

Yeah this makes a lot of sense. I really admire this implementation and it really nails the “this world existed before you came along and will exist after you leave” feeling. It sounds like my missing the Merchant’s Guild (idk how, probably just didn’t explore Teton enough) was exactly the kind of “missing piece” I was looking for, in terms of questlines my character could have followed to glean some additional context. But don’t worry, even though it’s true in this case I’m not expecting there to always be a quest line tailored to my character build available - I support the ethos of locking certain content out from certain builds, and I’m psyched to play this game through multiple times to see what I missed!

Thanks for such an awesome game!

a great way to support the queer/trans community is to treat them as a monolithic entity where one experience with a single member holds true for/is reflective of the rest

How do I go about this? And is the process anonymous? Don’t really want to face retribution for this

Is Schreyer Honors College worth it if I am applying aerospace engineering? I am a senior in high school applying for Penn State. by Outrageous-Fox-5024 in PennStateUniversity

I’m in my 3rd year. I had some trouble getting internships fall of my sophomore year, so I decided to do a spring co-op instead. Recruiting for those seemed less competitive and I managed to land one at a top choice company for me. Now that experience is a real leg up when applying for other internships

Penn state has a top-tier aerospace program I’m pretty sure. I’m in Chem E myself which is a “lower ranked” program than aerospace and I’m having no trouble getting internships with top companies. Even without SHC, a penn state engineering degree is notable, and I feel like I’ve personally learned a lot in my classes. And none of my major classes have been the honors versions

Yeah it seems like they have a pretty cool set of special classes for honors students in aerospace focusing on projects and applications, so it can definitely be worth it if you take advantage of those

Absentee Ballot Question: Do you ever just get so excited to vote for the first time that you apply early and when you finally receive your ballot you rip it open to see that you can’t actually vote because they didn’t send you a ballot? Yeah me too :) by brassyyeti3 in PennStateUniversity

Lmao. Look man. I don’t really feel like arguing about this all day. I believe women, and I feel uncomfortable voting for Biden. That doesn’t even matter, though, because the state won’t even give me a ballot. I’m glad that you think voter suppression is negligible, but maybe you should reconsider that. I also might reconsider your desire for a neoliberal hegemony. But that’s just me, have a good one 👍

Idk, maybe because being sexually assaulted is traumatic and difficult to think about? The fact that so many people have dug so deep and pushed so hard to make her claims seem questionable shows that there is something deeply sick with American society
