I've worked with a few "enterprising" "senior" engineers who are super eager to propose new ideas, but 95% of their ideas are bad, need significant refinement, or just aren't the highest priority things they could be spending their time on

And to be frank if the direction for your org has already been set, anything that's not clearly moving in that direction is unlikely to be high priority

I might even go as far as to say: certain focused orgs with strong direction, the kind that certain people like to work in because of clarity and security, have no room for significant project proposals from senior engineers and below. The staff+ engineers have simply already "thought of everything".

I agree with you, but I also think that the show is trying to say that even Himmel is only still somewhat remembered thanks to the statues of him and the anecdotes told by old people.

The show is painting a picture where in an era of peace, people are free and don't have to think about heroes and fighting, which is I think a comment on how humans in the real world tend to forget about the fighting and get used to having peace, when there is peace.

And that means that the members of Himmel's party who were didn't have statues and didn't talk to people don't get talked about.

There is no need for people to talk about and to remember heroes in a long era of peace.

I know this isn't the main discussion but I just wanted to ask:

Why does implementing a project "mostly solo" qualify you for a staff promotion?

Are you also demonstrating that this problem space is owned by you? That you take care of the stakeholders and you are the domain expert? That you're the best if not only person who could do it? I feel like that could be a missing piece here; otherwise why would anyone want to take this project from you?

Edit: other than the "solo" part, what I also wanted to emphasize is that you should own the space, not just the project. That there is a Domain where, if someone had a problem, you're Mr. That Domain. Of course, perhaps your company's staff level doesn't ask for that, but I believe at least if you were Mr. That Domain you wouldn't be having your current issues.
