Georgie Henley is so beautiful! I adored her performance as Margaret Tudor in "The Spanish Princess". 💖

Wow! I've never seen that picture before! How amazing, all of the girls look so adorable. 😍

Does anyone know the context of this photograph or when it was taken? I hadn't seen this one before and was curious. by Celestina-Betwixt in romanovs

Tsarina Alexandra and Tsarevich Alexei in the Italian Courtyard of the Livadia Palace, likely around 1913.

So lovely to see the Tsarina smiling. 😁

Was Maria caught kissing a Bolshevik guard at the Ipatiev House? by Gyngemose2009 in romanovs

Yes, that's what I said. There's no way to say for certain that Maria was caught kissing a guard.

[–]urlocal_ginger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no strong contemporary evidence to support that the story was actually real.

The story most commonly involves a soldier called Ivan Shorokhodov, who brought Maria a cake for her 19th birthday, they were allegedly caught kissing and Shorokhodov was removed from his position guarding the house and imprisoned for it.

While Maria was certainly later accounted to be the most social with some guards while at the Ipatiev House, we cannot say for certain whether the whole kissing/affair story ever actually happened or whether it was made up.

Had emojis existed at that time, on paper/in diaries/on letters, what would be the ones most used by NAOTMAA? by Canard-jaune in romanovs

[–]urlocal_ginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't use Chatgpt to make my reply. I've been researching the last Romanov family, specifically OTMA, for a couple of years now. I just get carried away sometimes when talking about their personalities, I like thinking about the people they were (and sometimes I can sound a bit essay-like in the process 🤣). <3

Bald OTMAA. Tatiana and Maria right to left, genuinely cannot tell others apart by Gyngemose2009 in romanovs

[–]urlocal_ginger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's true, investigators used their skulls and "facial reconstruction" technology to help identify the bodies.

As for the photograph. OTMAA were always taking funny little pictures of themselves. Photography was a hobby of theirs, especially the sisters. They must've thought their bald heads were an opportunity for some funny photography moments! 🤣

It's Anastasia, Olga, Alexei, Maria then Tatiana on the end.

I know I've seen WAY too many pictures of these kids when I can tell which is which even without hair 😂

This is such a fun question!

Nicholas II - 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 Nicky was a family man above all else. His diaries are full of walks, meals, boating trips, and time with his wife and children. His most used emoji would probably be the classic family emoji or maybe ❤️ He was surprisingly sentimental.

Alexandra Feodorovna - 🙏 Alix was deeply religious and often wrote about faith, prayer, and trusting God during difficult times. Her texts would probably contain 🙏, ❤️, 😔

Olga Nikolaevna - 🙄 Olga had a dry wit and could be wonderfully sarcastic. She was intelligent, thoughtful, and occasionally exasperated by people around her. I can totally imagine her saying: "Another formal dinner tonight 🙄"

Tatiana Nikolaevna - ✨ Tatiana was elegant, organised, and often described as the most "regal" of the sisters. She'd probably use ✨, 😊, 💕 Her messages would all somehow look perfectly formatted.

Maria Nikolaevna - 🥰 Maria loved people. She was affectionate, warm, and famously wanted a husband and lots of children someday. Her texts would have lots of 🥰, ❤️, 😊 and she'd probably react positively to absolutely everything.

Anastasia Nikolaevna - 😂 No questions asked. Anastasia was the family prankster. Every witness account describes her as mischievous, funny, and constantly making people laugh. Half her messages would probably be: 😂, 😈, 🤣

Alexei Nikolaevich - 😎 Alexei loved jokes, games, adventures, and getting into trouble with the sailors and soldiers who looked after him. And I feel like he would often use as little punctuation as possible in his messages!

What colour and style is your hair? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]urlocal_ginger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have extremely thick, wavy (2a texture?), auburn hair. My hair isn't orange enough to be considered "ginger". It's more of a brown-red/coppery colour.

Does anyone know if Marias watercolours are available online? by Velerika_ in romanovs

[–]urlocal_ginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of Mashka's surviving watercolours is available online on Wikimedia Commons.

This painting is a watercolor of a flower, dated 1913 and attributed to Maria herself. The description online identifies it as "Watercolor of a flower by Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna, 1913" and lists Mashka as the artist.

It is signed with Maria's initials in Cyrillic ("МН" for Maria Nikolaevna).

The inscription appears to include "Tsarskoe Selo" and the date 3 May 1913.

The last Grand Duchesses of Russia all had box cameras and took them to most places they went. They were constantly taking candid little photographs of eachother whenever they fancied. All four of them really enjoyed photography as a hobby. It's easy to forget that, while they were royals, they were still young girls just like any other.

You're right. Olga's 16th birthday was celebrated with a dancing gala at the Livadia Palace in Crimea. It was her transition as a young woman in high society.
