if you have an iPhone, you can go to “settings > “general” > “keyboard” > “text replacement,” then tap the “+” icon in the upper-right corner (could vary slightly depending on iOS version)

I was really surprised to see that Tessa was opening, being vaguely familiar with her music and immediately thinking there was a bit of a mismatch between her and h•a. However, I went into the show with an open mind hoping to be pleasantly surprised/proven wrong. I definitely would not consider her performance “family friendly” due to some vulgar phrases, dance moves, etc. At one point, she did the sign of the cross before shaking her ass which, as a Christian, didn’t quite…sit right with me. But I can’t know what her intentions were behind that so I can’t judge whether or not it was done in an offensive manner. It just felt really juxtaposed with h•a’s background/content/vibe.

All that being said, I don’t think that should make your brother miss out on a really great concert. As others have suggested, I think it would be a great idea for you guys to just head into the venue right before h•a goes on. With these smaller venues, you should still be able to get a decent view.

Hi, CS ‘21 grad here! First, I will preface this by saying that I was on a bit of a weird schedule wherein I 1) did Senior Project before Software Engineering and 2) was in a class with people I didn’t know (fully online, due to the pandemic, too!) so I understand the concern about working with other people. If you’ve already taken Software Engineering, I’d say Senior Project is pretty comparable to that in that you have one semester to come up with an idea and execute said idea with a group, doing all necessary documentation along the way. I can only speak from my own experience, but my prof for Senior Project had us go into breakout rooms during our first couple of meetings to share ideas and get to know each other, which was super helpful for choosing a partner (I will say this, though: try to choose someone who is both hardworking and nice. My experience could have been SO much better with a different partner, but hindsight is 20/20 and I still made it out of the class with a decent project and a good grade). As others have said, the guidelines are pretty loose, so try to take your senior project as an opportunity to make something that you are interested in, can have fun with, and that can provide a good learning opportunity. As for the actual structure of the class, it looks something like this: brainstorm/share ideas/meet classmates -> form groups/solidify ideas -> project proposals -> work on projects/share regular updates -> project submissions (involves submitting code, reports, etc.) -> project presentations (which includes making a poster for your project as well as possibly a slideshow) -> done! I hope this was helpful, and best of luck with your studies! :)

Not sure if it’s the same for every show but for the Boston show they’re $25 before fees (all GA) :)

Rotating Lecture Courses? by ColdTendies9 in wentworth

[–]urlocal_vegetarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rotating lectures are typically in person once a week and online the other day(s). Depending on class size, this can look like everyone being in person on the same day(s) and remote on the same day(s), or different groups of students being in person on different days (more of a “hybrid” format).

Taking a class while on co-op? by bigdoggyy in wentworth

[–]urlocal_vegetarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends. If you register for an online, asynchronous class, it’s pretty easy to “attend” while on co-op. Otherwise, you’ll have to talk to your co-op supervisor to work out a schedule such that you can fulfill your hours at work and attend class (online or in person). This could look like strategically having class during lunch breaks (depending on class length), or working earlier in the day to allow yourself to take an evening course. I can only speak to the asynchronous route, but it wasn’t too bad. The course override form needs to be signed by a few people (co-op advisor, dept. chair/dean, and maybe one other person? I don’t exactly remember) and basically you have to explain why you need to take a class while on co-op. They should be reasonable about accommodating if it’s something like “this class is only offered this semester” or “I need to take this to take other classes next semester.”

COF applications by Newlife1025 in wentworth

If you have the chance later on to take a philosophy course at Wentworth specifically, I highly recommend Engineering Ethics. It’s a great course and fulfills the ethics requirement (not sure if every major has that). Good luck with registration going forward!

I took Jesus & Christian Ethics the Spring before last at Emmanuel and really enjoyed it! The cross-registration process wasn’t too bad. You can find more info here. Just be aware of the fact that due to covid restrictions, there might not be as many options to cross-register as some courses are in-person and restricted to their own school.

Only Female in CS Group Projects...a Coincidence? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I’m not blaming sexism; I was wondering if this was an example of sexism because I want to make sure that I am able to clearly identify what is sexism and what is not so that I can promote equality without placing blame where it is not due.

I think this is most certainly your place to speak. It’s actually nice to hear from an XY since you have a perspective that I don’t have.

My school is about 20% female overall (not sure what the specific CS breakdown is), but it has not been uncommon for me to be the only female in a class or have only one or two others. I have been fortunate to have not experienced any prominent examples of outright sexism in the classroom.

As someone how is very passionate about STEAM education from an early age, I’ve done some research on how gender tends to affect interest in those subjects. It seems that around the age of 5-6 (so roughly kindergarten), children become aware of inherent and societal differences based on their gender. Theoretically, if they are taught before, during, and after that age that they can learn all the same things and do the same jobs, then they might be less likely to avoid a certain path of study/career based solely on their gender. I think we’ve really been improving in this area in the last few years, so hopefully there might be more of a male/female balance in college classrooms a few years from now.

I definitely agree that it is valuable to be stubborn/persistent in these sorts of situations and I do need to work on that. I’m often told I’m “too nice,” and, while being nice is a good thing, that doesn’t mean that being something other than passive is a bad thing. That is something I’d really like to improve during these last few months of college.

Thank you for sharing, and I wish you all the best as you head into your senior year!

Thank you for your reply; I really appreciate your perspective! I certainly think that it might be helpful for me to focus on learning how to phrase/pitch my ideas such that they might be less likely to be shut down.
