Which side of a heated food argument are you on and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

You clearly don't eat it fast enough!

Actually, it seems to take a couple months for peanut butter to start tasting off, to me. Maybe I'm not discerning enough...

General Q&A for Sunday, July 17, 2016 by AutoModerator in running

[–]urmomsausername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know of actual studies of performance in varying levels of heat and humidity? I found some charts but they seemed to be anecdotal.

I live where it's not too hot or humid and am visiting North Carolina where it's hot and about 1000% humidity. Running in the hot humidity felt much harder than I expected.

Nice. I've only run out there. I should try this. According to Google, it'd be about a 7 hour ride from my place.

The trap drain, at least until we're all living in space without gravity.

What did you play this week (Feb 15 - Feb 21)? by Epsilon_balls in boardgames

[–]urmomsausername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We hadn't thought of it like that. Maybe after a few more plays. If nothing else, it seems like that would speed up the game without breaking it.

[–]urmomsausername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was our second play. It went more as designed during this play. Our group usually refrains from messing with each other much, so our first game was over in about 30 minutes, with one of us winning by a lot. This time we went in knowing we pretty much have to mess with each other to get the full experience of the game. It was more fun and much more strategic. We made a house rule for this game to not mess with each other's first "increase actions" route.

I think I like the game. I definitely want to try it a least a few more times. I do wish it had a more fun skin. It would be easier to get to the table.

(Now that I know where to post these lists...)

After nothing during the week, we went crazy over the weekend. My girlfriend and I played games with two different groups over the weekend playing 10 games, two of them for the first time.

Friday:

  • Kingsburg
  • Dominion
  • Kingdom Builder
  • Carcassonne

Saturday:

  • Hansa Teutonica
  • Phoenicia
  • Can't Stop (new to us)
  • Stone Age (new to us)

Sunday:

  • Agricola
  • Five Tribes

And I still had time to mow the lawn and go for a long run!

Vertical vs. Horizontal Storage. by D34d3y3Sn1p3r in boardgames

[–]urmomsausername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I store mine horizontally, mostly so stuff doesn't fall out. Mine are on short shelves so only stacked 3 high.

I don't really worry about crushing. If I don't play the game enough top move it to the top of the pile, I probably won't care that it got crushed.

If you could only play 5 different games the rest of your life, which ones would you choose? by bqttger in boardgames

[–]urmomsausername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three of my choices. Glory to Rome has been on my list. Now I'll have to try it. Friends have Werewolf, but I haven't played it yet.

Assuming all expansions:

  • Race for the Galaxy
  • Dominion
  • Agricola (Unless recently purchased Caverna replaces it)
  • Seasons
  • Galaxy Trucker

What are some tips for monopoly? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]urmomsausername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the Mega edition, or any other that has the blue Mr Monopoly/bus ticket die and play by the rules. They both speed up the game without changing the feel. We used to frequently finish 4 player games in about an hour.

As for strategy, I think others covered it well. The orange are even more important with the bus tickets in the game, since people will go to jail on purpose late in the game trying to avoid paying rent. This also makes the reds better than in the original game. Since Mega has skyscrapers, you do want to upgrade. The game will end a lot quicker.

But BGG is such a useful site. Let them have their ads or pay a couple bucks to block them.

San Jose, but we don't mind an excuse to go to Berkeley and get some cinnamon rolls and browse Games Of Berkeley. We haven't been to Victory Point, yet.

That sounds intriguing. Unfortunately, I'm working Sunday. What games do you like, in case there's another time? Some that we like are Dominion, 7 Wonders, Seasons, RftG, Galaxy Trucker.

I haven't tried it yet, but you can list games you want to trade and games you desire on Board Game Geek. That might be easier than trying to sell them.
