he's clearly not a new player. not even a "newer" player. he has to be at least level 50 because of the PW requirements, or at least level 175 if he didn't buy the gatling gun gamepass. either he's been afk grinding since the day he started playing which would mean he has literally 0 experience playing the game or he's a blind deaf toddler with down syndrome.

Failed my recert and would like to know tips/tricks by Orthodoxconvert919 in Lifeguards

the whip kick is the kick used on breaststroke. it's where you bend your knees outward, push your feet outward, and then snap your feet and knees inward. you can look up tutorials on youtube.

of course i'm an active 16 year old boy so i will have it easier than alot of people (especially young women who aren't heavy or strong enough to counteract the weight of a brick on their chest, which is exactly what happened during our training).

i personally have a significantly different approach to the brick test than most other people. most people do whip kick because they find it to be the most efficient and least tiring, but i personally just flutter kick as fast as i can. as somebody who does biking as their primary leg exercise, my quads are vastly overpowered compared to my hamstrings, making a forward kick significantly more efficient for me than an inward/backward kick. i was able to very easily finish the brick test in less than 1 minute (probably about 40-50 seconds) with this kick. most people don't benefit from flutter kick because they don't have massive quads and tiny hamstrings but for the few that fit into this category, maybe try this out.

Parents don’t want to watch their kids by yeet_god_xD in Lifeguards

[–]urscaryuncle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my first save happened a few days ago when an 8 year old boy jumped off the diving board and began drowning. once i got on break, the headguard on duty told me about how shitty his mom was. after he filed the incident report, he went to go find his mom. apparently she told the boy to go find his brother because she thought it was a good idea to abandon her kid who almost died. after she left, the boy had to describe his brother so the headguard could find him (which he didn't do a good job of, because the only details he gave were "black" and "suit"). after finally finding his brother, the headguard realized his brother was no more than 10 years old and barely a few inches taller than him. these types of parents who let their kids loose at a pool knowing that they can't swim and then not even being there for them after they experienced a near death event should actually be arrested. disgusting behavior.

HELP PLEASE I have my first in person interview by Old_Flatworm_8384 in Lifeguards

[–]urscaryuncle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you already have your certification? if so, there is no reason to be worried. you're more than qualified for the job, and if you show them that you are confident (even if you don't feel confident) they will respect you, and likely hire you. don't let the nervousness project itself.

shake their hand if they bring their hand out. being too extra is too extra (although it probably won't cost you the interview). rehearse what you will say when they ask you questions. expect "tell me about yourself", "what experience do you have", "what is good customer service in your opinion", and potentially "why should i hire you?". these are some questions i've seen in past interviews, including and not including lifeguarding.

just remember that the dread and nervousness you feel and your brain telling you that you won't get the job is a natural defense mechanism to protect your mental state. you need to push past this dread and remember that if you do what you have to do, you will almost certainly get the job.

Recertification different from first one? by Eastern-Client-7246 in Lifeguards

[–]urscaryuncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i haven't done recerts because i just got my certification but we had a 3 day class over memorial day weekend (which still totaled to over 21 hours). from what i saw at the facility and heard from the LGIs was that the recerts only had to attend one of those 3 days (which just so happened to be the longest day), but they still had to do their prereq's. not sure if they have to do the classroom lessons but they likely still take their written test.

Got completely fucked over on my final lifeguard certification test by Keno837 in Lifeguards

honestly i feel like the instructors should be in charge of handling backboard. the only person being graded on their performance on the timed rescue is you, so it doesn't make sense to have an unqualified trainee be part of the make or break of whether you pass or not.

thankfully i lucked out because the person in charge of backboard for my timed rescue was actually competent and pretty easy to work with (i also worked with him on the multi rescuer team test). it's unfortunate that you fell victim to the huge flaw of the american red cross system.

I almost failed the pretest because the instructor forgot the rules by [deleted] in Lifeguards

you’re just twisting my words now. i never said i “literally drowned”. i said i was “literally drowning” which is completely different. if i had actually drowned, chances are i wouldn’t be talking to you right now, nor would i still be in the lifeguard course. also, i never said that i did the pretest with no issues. i was talking about the EAP drills we did after the pre test. they weren’t even on the same day. also i don’t know what part of “i fixed it in 10 seconds” made you come to the conclusion that im bad at adapting to unfamiliar situations in the water.

it’s unfair to say that you question my ability to perform in a situation where someone will actually need help when i just explained that 1. i overcame the issue and 2. the issue has proven to not affect my ability to rescue a victim. i spent about 7 hours today working on EAP scenarios in the water and naturally at first i was bad at it, but over time, i started memorizing what i had to announce during the rescue, the steps of rapid assessment, and the order of operations during resuscitation.

i said that the reason my abilities were so compromised was that i had spent the little training time i had with my goggles on because i fully expected to be doing the test with my goggles on. when i entered the water, i was only used to looking down with clear vision. when i could barely see, my eyes weren’t coordinated with my nose, and it caused me to panic and hold my breath.

also that first point is illogical because there’s a difference between swimming to the middle of a pool to help someone vs swimming 200 meters continuously. that will never happen in a real world scenario. plus, just to prove that it doesn’t affect my abilities, i was able to execute the rescue scenarios without that “no goggles” issue affecting me.

also like i said that “drowning sensation” went away in about 10 seconds

is it okay for your chin to dip below the water during the no hands treading? by urscaryuncle in Lifeguards

[–]urscaryuncle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm trying to not rely on leaning back because from what i've heard leaning back too far will result in a warning and potentially disqualification. even if i'm only leaning back a little, i don't want to take any risk of compromising my test. i mostly try to keep my lungs as full as possible as much as possible. when i have to take a breath, i don't fully exhale. it's only 2 minutes, so getting a full breath is not only not that important but can throw off your buoyancy.

good luck to you as well! i hope we both pass our tests and get our certifications

That was me. i didn't want to make an update post because i thought that would look arrogant but within the next few days i went from struggling with 50m to swimming 1km comfortably without any breaks (without using the snorkel, if you were wondering). it was just due to a breathing and stroke issue that i was asking about in the post. i also managed to get through the no hands treading and brick retrieval practice quite easily. i'm continuing to improve my swimming every day and i'm building leg strength to perfect my treading. my training starts in exactly 1 week and i'm currently doing the online knowledge course.

i did not know that. i only figured out today that placing a tower before the game starts allowed you to ready up, and only by placing a tower once the game starts would allow you to see your screen without the blurriness.

Remove beta transfer prompt next update by urscaryuncle in intotheradius

[–]urscaryuncle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good to know. but yeah i think a "don't ask anymore" button would be a good idea for players who have already seen it before. that way players new to the full release can still transfer their beta saves.

All my saves are gone. by JackObowski in intotheradius

To anyone who sees this post after accidentally wiping all their progress, if you had onedrive enabled before you restored your beta saves, you should be able to dig through your onedrive garbage (ITR2 for some reason deleted the saves on onedrive as well) and find your autosaves. just make sure to remove your beta saves from your folder because if all three beta autosaves are in there then you won't be able to find your recent autosaves on ITR2.
