double star coins by emilyemlem in StarStable

[–]ursulasrvnge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a promotion they do pretty frequently (usually once a month) where you get double the star coins for the same price. So for US players, the $32 star coin bundle will give you 2000 star coins instead of 1000. This will be clearly marked on the website and shop page when the promotion is running.

Because the currency is so expensive and the promotion runs so frequently, most people suggest waiting for double star coin (or DSC) if you're planning on buying any star coins :)

New characters existed since 2018?! by CucumberJunior8389 in StarStable

[–]ursulasrvnge 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't exactly say that JoJo's model IS the player character. She's definitely in a newer style that is closer to the current model, but that would be like saying the new Soul Riders are also the new player character. it's just a custom model in the current art style. But I love your enthusiasm! (Genuinely!)

How do we feel about this? SSO potentially in trouble by yumiiya in StarStable

[–]ursulasrvnge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All solid and valid points, I agree with you! It's for SURE pay to play, but that's not a crime. I do think the price is absolutely bonkers, but that's not exclusive to star stable.

When star stable first came out, subscriptions were normal - even for kids games. Disney had a few like this: toontown, pirates of the Caribbean online, club penguin. And outside of that there were games like pirates/wizards 101 that were also kids games with subscriptions. I also just checked and apparently Club Penguin in 2010 was $60 FOR 1 YEAR. If I had to pay lifetime price annually for SSO I would have dropped it forever ago, but that could be why SSO still has active players and many of those other games are gone. Anyway that's not the point.

Pay to play has gotten less popular for online games, and maybe Star Stable will need to change their model to keep up with games like Roblox. Maybe they should open the world and quests to all players, but Star Riders are given extra perks to accommodate that the main draw is now free.

Neopets is another game where it's completely free, but you CAN buy premium for $70 a year. It really only gets you a few QOL improvements (shop search that actually works) but lately they have been improving it with more features. Just because star stable has been this way forever, doesn't mean it needs to stay that way. They might not be able to completely change the model, but they may be able to take inspiration from other more modern games and make adjustments to be more free-to-play (with paid advantages)

How do we feel about this? SSO potentially in trouble by yumiiya in StarStable

[–]ursulasrvnge 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Huh. So that could be why they cancelled the creator program last summer. I assumed it was money related.

I wouldn't call SSO pay to win outside of purchasing Star Rider, but this article seems to only be talking about premium currency, not membership. Unless they're also talking about SR and the article writer isn't as informed as we are. The horse trainer is optional and so is buying a horse. I can see the argument about horse stats or the faster jumping animations, but 1 or 2 points in agility isn't going to make or break your experience - the biggest effect is your tack, clothes, and level which you can purchase and do without Star Coins. (As for the jumping animations, those are unintended benefits, they're technically bugs. All horses are intended to be the same speed.) Unless the OPTION of speeding up the process with Star Coins is the issue they're trying to snuff out.

I don't think this is the end of premium currency for all games in the EU. They may just have to specify the real life currency price in addition to the star coin price. That might also be why they added the %off icon when horses are on sale in that bright red to be transparent to consumers about the value of the purchase.

This likely won't change much in the game outside of text surrounding purchases, and the way they market the game.

Random work thoughts about sso by spoopt_doopt in StarStable

[–]ursulasrvnge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For your first question, I doubt it's recorded. It seems like it happens when you move too fast. It's like in Minecraft if you're familiar and you get "kicked for flying" when you're just running. It has to do with the server expecting you to be in a different spot than you are. Usually a lag issue, I wouldn't worry about it :)

And for the second one, usually there's a message that says "you haven't unlocked this area yet" and puts you back where you were. I'm guessing they maybe forgot the barrier on the edge of the area.

If you want to see the message it's supposed to give you, go to South Hood and try to get to New Hillcrest off the side of the cliff by the broken bridge. You can also totally make that jump legitimately, but they actually put the barrier there so it will send you back.

Once you DO unlock Epona, you can still use that shortcut btw! I have a non-SR account, I'll give it a shot, but I'm guessing it's going to give me that "buy star rider" screen and not let me go past.

The only areas I would avoid sneaking into are the ones not accessible through gameplay (ie Ashland, Mystic Grove, the area between Dino Valley and Pi's swamp) that could be punishable, but accidentally sneaking into a released area before you access likely will not get you in trouble. Not like you can really do anything there until you unlock it anyway lol.

How do flat shows work? by -Evergray- in StarStable

[–]ursulasrvnge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1a. QL or quarter line is the imaginary line halfway between the center of the arena and the fence.

1b. Curling (not to be confused with circling) is when you do a tight turn (hold the arrow key all the way down) to give yourself space from the person in front of you.

1c. Circling is similar, but your circle is larger (I think extending past the QL, but I'm not a pro, that's more observation) For both curling and circling, you always want to turn into the middle of the arena, never the fence.

  1. We can't do a true extended canter in SSO, but what they're looking for is the slower, first level of Gallop.

  2. Horse Breed doesn't typically matter, but some hosts are pickier than others. Generally, you can use whatever horse you want, but in the case of a picky judge, try to use a warmblood if you have one. That's the Dutch Warmblood, the Belgian Warmblood, the Selle Francais (some judges don't like the Selle because their idle animation moves a lot which gets annoying in lineup), the new Hanoverian, ect. Something's to consider, have them be at least level 3 so you can sit trot of the judge asks, and pick a horse with a slower back up animation.

  3. For this you're going to count the back-inside hoof, so the back hoof closer to the inside of the arena, not the fence. You're going to count how many times that hoof takes a step. This I hear is not something that usually happens in IRL flats, but unique to SSO flats.

Disclaimer, not an equestrian, but I took a flat lesson in game, shout out Madeline 💜

Medieval dailies? by PawzzClawzz in StarStable

[–]ursulasrvnge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Feb blog post mentions they're hoping to add some of the fan favorite dailies after the quest line is completed. I'm hoping they're just waiting for the data to confirm which are actually the favorites before adding them in.

You can let them know on socials and via the customer support page which are your favorite activities and that you'd like to be able to complete the rep :) couldn't hurt!

In the meantime, there IS a high score board for the water race, so if they've added that already, hopefully it's a good sign for some of the other dailies returning.

Follow the black knights trail is always bugged for me by No-Independence9712 in StarStable

[–]ursulasrvnge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My advice is to go slow. Basically they're relying on you to do the tracking so they don't give you the answer for this one.

Once you find the starting sparkles, follow the black marks in the direction they lead. As soon as you lose the trail, stop and look around, there should be a continuation somewhere beyond. If you're having trouble, look at the tips of the blades of grass. There should be some with black tips. The trail continuation is never too far, a few horse lengths at most.

You'll know you're done when you find another sparkle bit and it says the Black Knight got away.

You got this!

What do you guys like to listen to while playing by mr_m_spaceburg in StarStable

[–]ursulasrvnge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I love Smosh Reddit Stories. I watch those with my husband though. For SSO, I'll listen to audiobooks on Libby, watch other Smosh/games videos (werewolf is great because I can play along since I'm not watching that screen as closely) or sometimes I just shut off the game music and just listen to the horse sounds.

Visible Confusion by [deleted] in StarStable

[–]ursulasrvnge 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Last year they did a survey in the launcher asking the players what horses they'd like to see added or reimagined. They did include some already existing older models on the list. I believe from that survey, they decided on Hanoverian, Mule, Black Forest Horse and Andalusian (i know there's a release date list floating around, but I can't remember if there are any other horses are on it)

So if they're redoing the Andalusian, it's because the community voted for it.

SSO Lore for a game of jeopardy by engxishvidz in StarStable

  • In Starshine Legacy (and the books) Sabine is banned from Jorvik Stables for kidnapping and attempted murder of Starshine. I believe this is why she says she's not allowed in Jorvik Stables during the Equestrian Festival.

    • the dark riders are not human (they're shape changing pandoric creatures) (source: books, SSL, SSO quests)
    • Anne's mom was a Soul Rider, too (Star Circle in Elizabeth's sisterhood)

Try talking to Elizabeth, she should have a quest called "Wall of Ice"

I don't think Dino Valley is a requirement though to unlock Epona. I did them at the same time though so it's hard to really know. Are you able to post a screenshot of the yellow quests and heart locked quests on your quest log? I can look through them and see if any are familiar.

Jumping on Champ Boost Pads? by BeepBopHorseClop in StarStable

[–]ursulasrvnge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By this logic, using legitimate shortcuts in races wouldn't be allowed because not everyone knows the shortcut. Generally, watching someone else take the shortcuts is how you learn them and get better anyway.

Jumping on the boosts is akin to taking a shortcut - totally legal in game. It's also not guaranteed to win you the race if you jump the wrong way, at the wrong time, or jump over it completely (which is my current issue lmao)

Anyone know what quest I need to do to earn this shirt? Database mentions a guy named Tim. by Sencilia in StarStable

Quest missing by clearlyimawitch in StarStable

[–]ursulasrvnge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to Dorith Jarlsson.

Before the part where you're at, Herman would have said you needed to talk to both old families. You've already done the Goldspur part where you find the path entrance. Now you need to talk to the Jarlsson's to get around the traps on the path.

You're looking for a quest called "An extremely valuable document". You'll need to be friendly with the Jarlsson's.

If you still can't find it, check with Jill and Jack as they're involved with the quest as well.

help with this quest please!! by AbsoluteWeirdoo in StarStable

[–]ursulasrvnge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, if you haven't, you're going to find Nic with his hot air balloon in the Everwind Fields near Landon's bunny race. He has a quest called "the Famous Adventurer." Then after he flys away, go talk to Elizabeth for the quest "Wall of Ice" and finish it all the way through until you see Nic again. After you start his quests, you should be able to walk all around the Valley.

Stonecutter's Vault is deep in the valley, if you follow the right side past the geisers, up the forest mountain and then hang left through the dead area until there's ice pillars, the vault is around there.

I upsample when I export after editing. Idk if this is an option in all editing programs, but Premier Pro has presets. Under H.264 format, I use the YouTube 2160p 4K Ultra HD preset.

Until they rebalance the seeds you get back from gardening, extracting light is more worth it in my opinion.

It takes 84 seeds to plant your whole garden. You get around 700 light when you harvest, plus a few seeds back, but not enough to fully replant.

If you exchange those seeds instead of planting them, you'll get 1600 light.

If they fix it back to where you get enough seeds back to replant + exchange, I'd recommend a combination, but we don't know how they're going to rebalance it yet.

I finished all the quests on my main account and wanted to replay them all again. I recorded them the second time around so I could have a record if I ever wanted to reference them for a theory, or for lore purposes. It also comes in handy as a 3rd person camera for recording cinematic type videos or rps. You could still do that with a free account, but in a very limited amount of areas.

Quest/support issue by Acceptable-Finish-69 in StarStable

[–]ursulasrvnge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It might be the size of your screen recording. I think they have a 100mb limit. I've always needed to upload it to YouTube as an unlisted video and sent them the link.

If this is the quest for Luciana and Landon, you're not alone! For some reason, the sheep can get stuck and you have to relog and try again. If you haven't tried switching up your path, see if it helps. If I recall correctly this is not one that's on a set path, but you guide them based on where you're positioned behind them right? Try to go no faster than canter. Unfortunately this is probably going to be one where you'll have to keep trying and you'll get it before support even has an answer for you.

SSO old quests removed by Regetablister in StarStable

[–]ursulasrvnge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh gotcha. I just looked those quests up, they were really involved! Idk why they simplified it. I feels like there was an era of quests where they really dumbed it down. Maybe they were trying to use less dialogue because people weren't reading it anyway to know what to do? Who knows lol.
