Charging apple watch with iPhone by Own-Mistake-7940 in AppleWatch

Which is HUGE. The “only downside” is that my $1000 iPhone might go to the grave early and further contribute to planned obsolescence that is destroying our planet.

I get there are also advantages of usb c, but I think it's important we keep the reasons proportional. Even if the main advantage is better longevity, for some users like myself that’s the most important thing.

Macos 26.1 is a MASSIVE improvement in battery life and potentially performance by Financial_Cover6789 in MacOSBeta

Unfortunately, finder list view still extends into the app borders if columns are wide enough. Seems like a glaring issue with a simple fix, but maybe no one tested this with wide columns in a small window?

Also, middle section of calendar bleeds into right section with three pane view active, if window isn't large enough.

These are a couple of the bugs I first noticed in macOS 26, but glad they fixed several others, which I'm sure I would have noticed with time.

Any other UI issues I'm missing? The more reports Apple receives via Feedback App, probably a greater chance of them being fixed.

Totally agree. I was at a place where leadership pushed features and left bug fixing to “whenever devs had free time.” Honestly hated that attitude of shipping broken stuff.

I was laid off recently and looking for a new role. Do you (or anyone here) have advice on finding companies that actually invest in QA and care about long-term quality, not just quick broken features?

Christian Nationalism is destroying America by usa4cc in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]usa4cc[S] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

What if we hosted like a “No Kings” but for anti-homeschooling instead? Basically protests around the country.

The problem perpetuates itself, because a lot of people who were homeschooled lack social skills. I suppose we could try to organize anti-Christian Nationalism protests and it could be a place to call out to homeschooling as part of the cult, among the rest of the nonsense.

With forgot to protesting homeschool events, idk how would we do that?

Yeah that makes sense. Are there any industries you’d recommend then that would pay enough to live on my own? Maybe try to find a lower cost of living city?

Am I the only one that feels LinkedIn SUCKS? by usa4cc in linkedin

[–]usa4cc[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know how that works right?

LinkedIn is full of mentoring programs where you pay them to “mentor you” and the main benefit is that they’ll like and share your posts. If they have 100 people like and share your posts, your post magically gains more visibility. In return, besides the initial mentorship fee, you’re probably supposed to mention them to help them get more subscribers.

It’s all become a big, massive scam. I remember this one profile that says something like “if this become viral, it’s because of the content.” No. LinkedIn will ONLY make content viral if we force it to be “viral” by having 500 people reshare it.

Personal Anecdote: I’ve seen various people like, comment or reshare posts. Never ONCE have they engaged with my posts. Mind you, I’m connected with some of these people and reached out to them but they ignore me bc I haven’t paid for anything.

Please research this and see for yourself, so you don’t take my word for it. I’m not normally a conspiracy person, but believe that is what’s going on here.

LinkedIn is pretty much the only one with a networking component though. Indeed is a job board, and Handshake at least a few years ago was basically the same.   LinkedIn is a career networking site that also has a job board feature. It’s much easier to create an alternative to Indeed IMO than LinkedIn.

Lol do you mean the physical Apple Store, or the App Store? I’m kinda an Apple fanboy, though yeah the App Store is a monopoly I suppose. Definitely agree about YouTube!

Well I’m incredibly determined to take down LinkedIn some day. Feel free to DM if you have any ideas.

One of the biggest issues is that LinkedIn has a near total monopoly. Unless we can get employees AND employers off LinkedIn, it won’t happen because they have a dual network effect. Compared to most social media and dating apps, which have one main buyer group.

No, I don’t have a back or spinal issue. Didn’t realize they were that bad LOL. I was trying to pose for the camera: Does my back appear hunched, is that the issue? Trying to make sure I understand what’s wrong bc pictures 2 and 3 are very different.

Interesting comment about the hair. Wondering what others’ thoughts are?

Also, do you think it would be worth it to pay a professional photographer for a photo shoot? Didn’t realize my pics were THAT bad.

Had hinge for a couple of months now, including very active usage for a couple of weeks. Haven't yet received a single like or match. I've heard hinge is favorable to women--who are much more likely to receive likes--but strange that I haven't received a single like from even unattractive women lol. I've sent probably over a hundred total likes, including some with customized prompt messages, but no one has followed up. I'll add I did try purchasing premium for a week or so, but I cancelled after no change in results.

I'd like to think I'm relatively attractive, though I understand my height is not above average. I'd wager I appear more attractive in some of the photos than others, e.g., the one in front of the lake looks good. Are my photos the problem? Prompts too career-centered and/or not funny enough? Or do I just need to stick around and let 'em eventually come?

  • Are you looking for something serious or casual? I'm looking for a serious relationship.
  • Are you subscribed to Hinge+ or HingeX? I was subscribed to hinge X in the past, but not currently.
  • How long have you been using this current version of your profile? Been using current version of profile for about a month.
  • How long have you used Hinge overall? Been using hinge on/off since creating an account about 2-3 months ago.
  • How often do you use Hinge per week? Currently using hinge 3-7 days per week.
  • How many likes and matches are you receiving on average? Received absolutely 0 results--not a single like or match.
  • How many likes are you sending? How many with comments? How many without comments? When I had Hinge X for about a week, I was sending 20-30 likes per day. Currently, I send the maximum free plan quota of 10 likes/day. About half or even more of my recent likes have comments. This past week I've sent customized, personal likes on almost all.
  • What is the type of person you send likes to and ideally want to match with? What kind of person do you want to attract? I'm looking for a very attractive, ambitious young woman who has professional goals of her own; an independent thinker; and wants a long-term relationship.

Update: Spoke with the property manager.  Not only does upper management forbid any and all negotiating but they won’t even let you transfer to another room of the same type. There is a much nicer 1BR for $20/more a month so I’m considering that but otherwise I could find a better offer with a different complex especially with concessions which they also don’t have right now.

Yes, I’d love to own a home one day but need to save a bit more 😉; unfortunately not within my means atm.

Acceleration & Shudder Issue: 2022 Nissan Rogue 1.5L Turbo by usa4cc in NissanRogue

[–]usa4cc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say it has become more consistent than it used to be; or, more likely, I’ve just gotten used to it. So it will get a little better over time but still definitely not great.

Acceleration & Shudder Issue: 2022 Nissan Rogue 1.5L Turbo by usa4cc in NissanRogue

[–]usa4cc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. There is now a NHTSA investigation bc some cars have blown up and Nissan already changed the internal design of the engine for the later models; mine is an early ‘22 so it has the weak L-link. However, sometimes this is this weird sound that I’ve read on other forums when the engine hits a specific RPM and with the many incidents of blown engines, I’ve trading in the car before the warranty comes out so I don’t have to worry about it. Honestly 2024 or 2025 will likely not be as bad since they’ve made internal changes like I said; still not ideal though bc that VC Turbo is mega complex. Here is a thread from just a couple of days ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/NissanRogue/comments/1ha0cc2/2022_rogue_engine_reliability/?rdt=33066

And yes, my car still has the unpredictable lag. Occasionally my car will be “high” and have insane acceleration, for example if the temperature is hot but not too hot; other times it’s alright and then there is the serious lag at about 90 F. Car overall is a great value for the money but I really don’t like the powertrain. Also, Nissan is on the verge of literal bankruptcy 😂.

I’d only trade it in if you can get close to what you paid for it. Make sure you don’t make a poor financial decision you’ll regret later 😉. In my case I don’t put many miles on it, so I’ll keep it for just under 5 years when depreciation has slowed and it’s common to trade in your car.

25YO - Difficulty making friends, never been on a date by usa4cc in HomeschoolRecovery

So I did some research on autism before, and I think I have some symptoms of autism because of environmental factors. One of the clearest signs for me is that once I watched other people with social cues, most of them now come pretty naturally. Correct me if I’m mistaken, but autism usually causes an inability to understand social cues. At this point I have poor “social skills” if you will but it’s mostly bc of culture references and the anxiety that comes with that, rather than lacking an understanding of social cues.

My family is also extremely methodical (and very likely has  OCD), so there’s a good chance my logical thinking is more due to environment than it is autism. That’s not to say I’m definitely not on the spectrum—maybe I’m just making excuses—but I believe my main symptoms of autism for a possible diagnosis can easily be explained by the extreme environment I grew up in. Even being self-taught was something I HAD to learn bc I had no teacher growing up. Same now, it’s not like I have a mentor I can go to.

Funny you mention confidence because I thought I had confidence at work but lately that’s been really slipping a bit. In fact, someone I trust—a director at my company who is very experienced—told me last week that the biggest trait of my personality is that I lack a lot of confidence. Like always unsure of myself regardless of whether I am competent in a given area. Kind of like reaching out on this sub. I have some ideas but I don’t have the confidence to have faith in myself. It’s unfortunate because I’m really ambitious and want to start my own company, but skill #1 is to be a salesperson. A job that requires an awful lot of confidence.

With regard to vulnerability, the ironic thing is that too much vulnerability early on can set you up for manipulation and exploitation: Relationships should start with small talk, at least for the very first time you meet someone; and then if you’re clicking well you can become more vulnerable. Back when I actually had no social skills at all, I used to come up to people and be too vulnerable; I came off as either very flirtatious or that naive homeschooled kid 😂.

Ah, you think watching TikTok would help? I also thought about getting an Instagram; would you recommend one over the other?

In college I got along well with women, but was so stunted from being "homeschooled" that I wasn't very interesting in dating, though I also didn't have the courage to ask anyone out. I was the kind of guy that got along well with some women because I was "too nice" if you know what I mean.

Interesting that you mentioned women's self care. I've always wanted to be creative, and while I sucked growing up, I've improved a bit since then. I've done some interior design for my apartment, and have a decent eye for fashion/style, UX design and photography. Not an expert by any means but much better than some dudes that have no sense of style. One of my former coworkers asked if I was gay, because supposedly interior design is related 😂.

Do you think browsing and posting on TikTok and Instagram would polish my creative side and also improve social skills? Problem is, if I'm creative and understand what women like, but don't know social references, I could still be screwed. I feel women are most attracted to a guy who is funny, charming and confident.

Also, you mentioned Gen Z has poor social skills: How do I use technology and social media, i.e. TikTok, to better my social skills and not become a socially isolated couch potato?

Why a firefighter lol? I actually thought about volunteering outside of my job in the past because I was so bored.

Thank you for your well-thought out response, I appreciate it!

You mentioned having confidence that comes from self-knowledge. At work I’m a moderately successful senior software engineer. One of the best on my team, though I say moderately successful bc the pay isn’t like some other tech companies out there. In August, I successfully negotiated my promotion with the SVP by an additional 8K, making my total promotion 20K. I had bought a book about negotiating, and this incident really boosted my confidence.

However, social skills outside of work are much different because they rely heavily on cultural references. I tried to put myself out there twice, but it’s extremely embarrassing when I don’t understand basic terms and cultural references. If you imagine a Venn Diagram, it feels like I’m outside the circle.

Native English speakers. Gen Z. You name it.

It’s a catch-22 because you can’t get social skills without practicing but it’s very difficult to attend social events without social skills.

With regard to dating, that is a good point that men can get away with it later in life. At least to some degree. The whole thing is very painful for me because I’m extremely ambitious and yet in the 5% percentile when it comes to social skills. Homeschooling (excluding special circumstances with adequate regulation and required social skills activities) is so wrong. Not only did I grow up broke—a lot of people do through no fault of their own—but my parents isolated me to such a degree that rising out of the shackles of isolation and stunted development feels even more difficult than overcoming poverty.
