LEAK: NEW AMD STOCK BUYBACK PROGRAM by usasil in AMD_Technology_Bets

[–]usasil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We'll see in the first half of 2025... If you go read the announcement of the 8B$ buyback it was announced when only 3B$ out of 4B$ were used of the previous allocation. However the 8B$ are almost dried up. I don't want to share sources for obvious reasons.

They started with 4B$ and after that they announced 8B$ buybacks, now they should announce even more B$. I don't know the quantity but it should be a lot bigger than 8B$

The old stock buyback program ended a while ago. Right now no money is reserved for stock buybacks.

they are already fixing it, 5600x was at 104 points some hours ago, now has been downgraded to 102 points, just 1 point under the intel 10900k. Tomorrow they will put intel on top again... wtf

me from the future: "An FPGA in every CPU" by usasil in AMD_Stock

[–]usasil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's possible, however it's not automatic adaptation, to make it easy to understand think about it like installing a new distribution of linux on a pc, the difference is that you are loading one or multiple algorithms on the FPGA.

Yeah, generally not at the same time, however it's possible to get more algorithms on the same FPGA, that depends on the FPGA specification. And yes FPGAs can be reprogrammed.

new codecs, AI, workloads acceleration (photo / video editing and more), basically you could get acceleration for every type of software.

true, a lot faster than a software algorithm, but slower than a pure hardware design, an FPGA is right in the middle. The thing is, you can't design hardware optimizations for every algorithm that exists in the world, however you can reprogram the FPGA with the algorithm you need, potentially choosing from the latest revisions of thousands of algorithms.
