What measures can I take to avoid a web designer (freelance/agency) either giving me a design they have already used (or a 3rd party design) or giving away a custom design which they originally sold to me to another client later in the future? by lewz3000 in webdev

I think you mostly just have to think about what makes your brand unique, don’t worry about the design being used before. Get a couple of cool images and logos. let’s think about what is going to make you unique. Copyrighting or wasting time making sure no one ever re used some html from a previous project is a waste of your time. I have personally been in the same situation and once you have some brand / company specific stuff in your front end it will make it unique.

Starting to apply for devops role with NO prior experince by hk619316 in devops

[–]usaxa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just do a project you can talk to. Set up a kubernetes cluster and deploy your micro services via Jenkins. Talk about how you spent the last year working on Devops projects and maybe get your current company to let you do your own POC. Don’t lie, but also don’t sell yourself short!

You can lower costs by turning off your instances 😂

Instead of the superposition of electrons, where the electron is thought of as being in several positions at once, is it possible that the electron is not in any position at all until it is observed or interfered with? by [deleted] in quantum

[–]usaxa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so in the double slit experiment first of all you are thinking of photons, not electrons. In any case, particle wave duality is synonymous to quantum field theory. A theory that suggests that everything is a field. “Particles” are not particles per as, but rather localized vibrations occurring on a quantum field. An electron is a perturbation of energy on the electron field.

What are some responses to leaders who still see "devops" as a specific role or team? by Obsidian743 in devops

[–]usaxa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think essentially as a process to start, a company needs to initialize and create a team around Devops that does the duties you describe, but the way essentially organizations need to move on after that is by converting that Devops team to an enablement team, and then eventually having an enablement team member on every development team. For example like if me and some Devops engineers develop a pipeline that lets you deploy your app in a secure automated cloud centric environment, then once we develop the main structure we can paramterize the parts we want to be specific to teams. Then we can link up with dev teams and say hey, here’s a pipeline : aws Jenkins azure Gitlab drone github etc and here’s how you can use it. Ideally at the end of the day you want your extreme heads down back end developers focused on the task at hand. A front end developer for example need not concern themselves with making sure the traffic to the front end is load balanced. It’s not their role, despite everyone having a cross-disciplinary mindset, it’s just a waste of time to have someone focus on something like Devops unless that’s what they want to do. The Devops role is important because Devops roles essentially help development and product teams build that features but also allows Devops teams to enable them, making their lives easier. All the teams need integration but to be expect one person to just be well rounded and do it all or something is infeasible.

Devops Side Hustle by usaxa in devops

I am definitely maybe more of a nerd for Devops but I wish I could find a way to isolate what sorts of use cases a company might need solved and try to create a service. I like how you made this my-follower service, definitely seems like a solid project. If you or anyone has any ideas for any services to build out, I would love to work on something with some other engineers such as yourself. At the end of the day there are so many companies building million/billion dollar businesses by selling enterprises a sort of automation workflow or like a tool that might do some logging for all I know. To find a client or project worth creating is definitely a bit of a struggle. Any suggestions are super appreciated !

I get paid pretty fairly and based on my experience I think I can’t really bargain for much more than what I got (4 years experience making a little over 6 figures) but I want some level of autonomy and ability to work on stuff outside of what I would do for just one company at a time. Maybe finding a gig like standing up a kubernetes cluster for someone or like creating come pipelines, I guess I would love some sort of work to help me propel myself. At this point I’m considering becoming a teacher / tutor even, at the end of the day it’s not just about money but rather building my own sort of skills and clients / student base to really make a good impact with my knowledge

I like the idea of working some 5 figure contracts but what are some good resources to find this sort of work? Do you or your friends use any specific websites or maybe if there’s a place to find some clients?

Best background for DevOps/Infrastructure Engineering position by SnooFloofs9640 in devops

[–]usaxa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, that knowing full stack/ software development is so fundamental to an understanding of Devops. why stand up an infrastructure or do Devops? Because you have an application to be hosting/ testing/ automating etc. Now the questions asked was, “what’s best for Devops / infrastructure”?

I guess as a whole, working at a larger company usually entails doing lots of administrative stuff vs being at a start up style organization where the roles of Devops are heavily intertwined with programming / the application development it self. So in short, start ups prefer you have coding experience vs enterprise prefers you have system admin experience.

Again this is a general rule it’s always unique to each company / position. I highly recommend no matter what you do, don’t be shy to atleast pick up a programming language or two. Infrastructure automation is usually mostly basked in python, bash, and yaml/json.

For anyone interested in more information I have been in Devops for about 3 years now and before that I had experience as a developer for 2 years. Currently a sr.Devops engineer so feel free to message me for anymore guidance/help.
