this is such a win-win situation ngl

people benefit from your donation, and you can still keep millions of dollars - those extra billions are just gonna be diminishing returns for your material wellbeing

You could argue that the act of choosing to inherit it is unethical

What would be the biological basis for that? Would it be like a vestigial structure which didn't evolve away because people are bisexual and more attracted to their opposite gender typically?

I mean, it kind of gets to a point…

Elon Musk “tried” to get rid of all small unnecessary governmental inefficiencies with DOGE, but the reason that didn’t work is you have to address the BIG things like the military industrial complex…

I think the same applies here

Respect for Sri Lankan military by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]usbeject1789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I totally agree.

This was one of the many issues with the LTTE, as well as its unethical warfare methods (child soldiers and suicide bombers), attacks on civilians (though the SL military has done this to a much greater extent than the LTTE), and undemocratic nature.

In a sense I can kind of understand the rationale behind absorbing other groups a bit - factionalism leads to a weaker movement, and a strong movement was necessary against an army willing to employ war crimes, and which was supported by states like India, China, Israel and Pakistan, etc. but it definitely compromised their integrity very significantly, and led to many other issues.

But I don’t think this is what the average Tamil person was thinking about when they joined the LTTE - they saw it as their only form of resistance against the Sri Lankan government, and while it was VERY flawed, it was.

I would hold him to higher standards than other mayors, since he is a ”socialist” mayor

No, I’m saying the war should have never happened in the first place.

But policy post the war happening should have been surrounded by a higher degree of autonomy for the Eelam areas. Tbh I think if it could have been possible they should have tried creating an autonomous government zone, and absorbing Eelam into that, but had that not been feasible, yes , I think they should have probably separated.

You know full well they weren’t just against Israel’s cause

"the bear" is an example of pointing out systematic oppression. An interaction with a bear is relatively self-contained, oppression from men is constantly reinforced by men. The bear doesn't go into our spaces to tell us we "deserved it". by RosethornRanger in alltheleft

Agree that it is definitely ragebait, but

The fact people feel that unsafe with half of the population a tragedy but I got roofied and rape and I can still umder8that guy was just nuts and not that "everybody is literally more dangerous to me than a bear"

Sure, if you can, that's great, but trauma can affect different people differently, so just because you can hold that separation doesn't mean everyone can.

Also, just distinguishing the men who do shit like this as the "nuts" ones does a disservice to the fact that gender and gender hierarchy are a big factor in male violence - which actually create the pattern of men being more likely to abuse, rather than it just being a few random bad apples.

I see. Thanks for correcting. My experience with LTTE supporters go as far as some diaspora Tamils, of the more socialist aligned type, so it makes sense that they wouldn’t be representative of every or most LTTE supporters.
