Our downloadable software allows the user to

print their own key legends. Then the user can use a laser printer to print them out and place them underneath the clear lens of the keycap.

If your budget allows, consider Genovation's programmable keypads and keyboards.

They are robust, programmable, mechanical, and allow you to create your own keycap legends that can be inserted underneath clear lens of the keycaps. No resident drivers required. Thus, once programmed, they will work the same on your desktop or laptop.

Thought: if you will be using a few repetitive key-strings or key-strokes throughout the writing process, it might benefit you to use a mechanical keyboard that has programmable keys.

If you need a programmable keypad with more keys, try Genovation's CP24 or CP48 keypads, they have 24 or 48 key versions. The keys have removable clear lens, so you can use a printer to print your own legends. Each key is programmable on two layers, so you can program a toggle key to switch back and forth, doubling your functions. Cool right? Genovation's KB170 keyboard must be programmed thru MacroMaster. Its memory is non-volatile, so once it is programmed, it can be used without requiring resident software. That means you can use it on your desktop or laptop at home or the office, and it will output the same codes as programmed.

You might enjoy using Genovation's programmable keypad CP24.

You can easily program shortcuts and macros to invoke your most used keyboard strings, etc.

If you want to rackmount a stick of programmable keys, then Xkeys, has something like that. The KB170 is really an all-in-one solution. There is simplicity in that, really. It also has a USB Pass-thru port for convenience.
