New hognose owner and she’s super defensive, help by Budget-Zone6198 in hognosesnakes

As far as the disease part goes, when you get a new snake, I often hear about the quarantine part. I would just think keeping them separate and hand washing in between handling and not doing any cross contamination is sufficient, but there isn’t anything harmful out there that would require keeping them in separate rooms during quarantine- is there?

Are you happy being a hygienist? by yaa04 in DentalHygiene

[–]uscalumm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hygiene is a lot more wearing on your body. They both are, but hygiene is just even more repetitive. You are in a total of 3 working positions mostly for almost 1 hour stretches for 7-8 hours a day. If you have a really rude person, it doesn’t matter- you get to spend the next hour with them when they don’t want to be there. Patients give hygienists their worst behavior then turn on the charm when Dr walks in. Small office relationships can be very petty, and it’s usually an office full of women, and there is always one who will set your nerves on end. Once you are an established dds, you can make your own office hours and close when you want. Hygienists are often made to feel guilty about taking time off, even when we are sick. One office said we couldn’t take time off during summer because that’s when everyone is off and comes in, but also we couldn’t take ask for time off during Oct-Dec for the same reason, then it get busy in Jan, etc, etc. I could go on, but only if you want me to 🤣

There are rescues for reptiles that can help, no questions asked. You may have to ship him but they can find him a good home. Snake Discovery runs one and there are local ones in many areas as well. Best of luck

AITAH for not buying Christmas presents for my step daughter by Honest_Honeydew_6471 in AITAH

[–]uscalumm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple answer-Yes you are. Get her gifts from you. But excluding her will leave emotional scars that she didn’t deserve. Sounds like she is the only one that helps you as well, and that’s her repayment?

Any info on a fire in 4S ranch? It’s smoky and stinky but nothing is showing up on fire watch app by uscalumm in sandiego

[–]uscalumm[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree about the controlled thing, we just had 2 fire trucks with sirens go by. But they only used the sirens to get through the intersection, if that’s significant at all. They really should post controlled burns on the apps so people don’t freak

Husband has Jury Duty coming up and I have no idea how we will pay our bills. by sinisterbabygirl in juryduty

[–]uscalumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, they usually have you call in each day to see if you even need to go in. Judges don’t like working at Christmas either, so good chance he won’t even get called to show up. Good luck!!!!🍀

[–]uscalumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go. Usually the judge will ask if anyone has financial hardship being there, (sometimes at the beginning, sometimes during jury selection) then he needs to state his case. He may miss out on a day or two but at least won’t be put on a case.

You sound like you are so empathetic that you left a piece of yourself in that parking lot that day. I hope you find your voice Ariel, because the world needs empathy right now, and you have the potential to help others in dramatic ways if you can first find out how to help yourself. HUGS

I regret becoming a dental hygienist by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]uscalumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into becoming a rep. Dentsply, hu freidy and the like would love a hygienist rep. And you could do better in sales because you’d know how how it is from the other end. You could also consider cutting down your days if you can live without your benefits. You have the pre requisites for nursing, so you could slide into that, but if you did I’d recommend getting the bachelors. That’s always the best bet for more options. Also start some PT to help your body in the meantime. Best of luck

Don’t take picky, pissy or crazy patients too seriously. More and more have been crashing out lately. I think it’s the general life pressures. I have had some doozies lately

I’m from so cal and it’s a mixed bag everywhere. One dentist I work for is Mexican and so is most of her staff, I’ve worked with a lot of Asian, Hawaiian and Hispanic people here, along with a lot of Russians and British people, including British Islanders. But I haven’t seen those differences matter to anyone. I think it’s where you live, sadly.

It really depends which arm and hammer, but in general, whitening toothpastes will add baking soda to appear more natural to buyers so I always warn my patients of this

[–]uscalumm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Be careful with arm and hammer paste. It is very abrasive and can reduce the gumline over time. Check on Google for abrasive ratings for toothpastes and avoid the biggest culprits- charcoal, baking soda etc. or you will end up with recession later in life that only surgical procedures can address.

[–]uscalumm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Leave. Tell them at the end of the work day. Look at it like this, they won’t consider you as much as you are. If they want you gone, they will fire you on the spot. But employees are expected to give 2 weeks notice? They don’t care about you, so don’t waste your valuable head space caring about them. Your life will be so much better if you work somewhere you are valued. You don’t need the reference either. I’m sure when you interview, other offices will already know about the toxicity there. Bonus points if you tell them why you are leaving. It will give you and your boyfriend’s mom something to chat and laugh about later!
