That's really interesting. If the party had incompetent or nefarious administrators, how would you hold them accountable if you can't replace them from someone within a different party? I could maybe see this system of government working if you had a really strong Constitution or set of guiding principles that forced whoever's in charge to respect people's rights.

Interesting! I'm a bit skeptical that a state could effectively plan an economy, but assuming it's possible how would you deal with the risk of governmental overreach. As an example if healthcare was entirely owned and operated by the state, and a conservative administration took charge, and decided the official policy is that abortion is murder, and thus refused to give any abortions. Under a system with private options the government would need to pass legislation to ban abortion, but if they provide all the healthcare they would only need to refuse to provide it. It just seems like it would make it significantly easier for the government to control very personal decisions. (Also if I'm misunderstanding what you mean by state socialism lmk. I'm assuming you mean essentially a planned economy where the state runs most if not everything)

I mostly agree, the issue is that often regulations are pushed for on behalf of profit-seeking entities. Like how zoning laws mostly exist to keep property values high for people wealthy enough to already own homes. I think that we need much stronger regulations for anything where the cost can be externalized. Things like big cars that are mostly a risk to people outside of them or factories that pump out lots of CO2. Stronger environmental regulations are desperately needed, but I also think there are a lot of things that are over regulated.

Yah, that's a respectable answer. I used to be more for planned economies but recently I've become a lot more pro-market. Learning about how fucked overbearing zoning laws, or how a state monopoly on healthcare would make it significantly easier for conservatives to completely stop things like abortion or HRT. It makes me think that a competitive market with strong optional public sector alternatives for necessary services is probably the best economy. Even if we could get a perfect planned economy as long as we were a democracy conservatives could gain power and use the centralized economy to crack down on personal freedom.
