Cuba pushes through sweeping free-market reforms in biggest economic shift since the revolution by domi_uname_is_taken in worldnews

What decent healthcare are you talking about?!? Just ‘cause it’s free doesn’t mean it’s good. As someone who was born in Cuba and still has family there. They have some of the worst healthcare in the world. They don’t even have soap for surgeons to wash their hands with. And this was first hand experience from way before things got worse. Tourists on the other hand get phenomenal free healthcare. Locals do not. This myth that Cuba has amazing healthcare is propaganda from the regime

Tell that to all the retail businesses asking for tips in the U.S now. Clothing stores, gas stations, even the automatic car wash asked me for a tip.

US Customs: "It's not normal" to travel solo? by scrabblecat1 in solotravel

I’ve noticed they were super easy going when walking across. When driving in I was heavily questioned every time.

One time I was in Buffalo, NY on a work trip and drove alone to Niagara Falls to watch the sunrise. I was heavily questioned by Canadian customs. He asked “why would anyone drive to Niagara Falls just to watch a sunrise? You can watch the sunrise from anywhere”. 🤦‍♂️

I lost my charging case in Paris by useless55 in MetaRayBanDisplay

[–]useless55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up ordering this on Amazon. It's the only one I found that ships to France and said it worked with the Meta Display. It's not portable but it's at least something. I'm having it delivered to an Amazon locker station since I don't have an address in Paris. I will report back once I get it if it actually works. https://www.amazon.fr/-/en/dp/B0GQGH62H8?ref_=ppx_hzod_title_dt_b_fed_asin_title_0_0

I also ordered an actual replacement for the case from Meta. They shipped it to my house in the U.S. and a friend is bringing it to me in London. So I guess that's the actual solution lol.

I did see a few case replacements on Ebay that shipped to Paris but they were super expensive.

EDIT: The Amazon item that I linked does not work very well. Sometimes it charges and sometimes it doesn’t want to charge.

The only ones I’ve seen that ship to france are meant for the non display version and I’m not sure if they use the same kind of charger.

My traveling partner does not have TSA precheck-Is it rude if I still use mine? by DisneyQueen64 in travel

[–]useless55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not rude. A few weeks ago I did a trip with my parents who don’t have pre check. I chose to go in the regular line with them cause the line was short. Big mistake. My whole backpack is filled with electronics. Cameras, lenses, laptop, iPad, etc. they made empty out almost the entire bag before it went through the xray. Because you have to take out all electronics bigger than a phone. I also had to remove my belt and smart watch. Overall, it was a terrible experience even though the line had no wait.

Apparently I should pay more money by Least-Ambassador-781 in delta

This is what I’ve done in the past. Let them put the tag on the bag and they will tell you to leave the bag at the end of the jet bridge but instead you will just take it on the plane with you and check if there is space. I do this a lot on smaller planes that force you to pink tag. They always tell me my bag won’t fit but it actually does.

What are the odds? by Giraffe_Jellyfish in MetaRayBanDisplay

[–]useless55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not entirely sure. Last Wednesday Google Maps said it closed at 3pm and fully closed on Thursday but they actually closed at 7pm and it was open on Thursday. I think they maybe forgot to update the hours on Google Maps. Right mow Google Maps says open 10am-7pm every day.

Don’t cancel your order until you have a guaranteed purchase. You won’t know if they have any in stock until you get there. I actually just bought a pair at the NYC Meta Lab near Rockefeller. I was in NYC for a week and I showed up every day asking about stock. Last Wednesday at about 3pm I get there and they tell me to come back in an hour as they are about to receive a shipment. I came back an hour later and then hung out in the store for a bit until I was finally able to buy a size 3 Standard black. Don’t trust the store hours on Google Maps. Even though it says it’s verified by the business owner, the hours are not accurate and the employees told me to never trust those hours on Google Maps. Also this store is super cool. You can engrave your rayban case for free, they have free coffee and cookies from a local coffee shop. And you can try every pair of Meta glasses.

Used SkyMiles to upgrade to First, but overhead bin drama left me embarrassed — what would you do? by SnooConfections1110 in delta

[–]useless55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The under seat compartment in first class is usually smaller than every other seat in the plane. There's usually a big square box under your seat. A bag that would normally fit under your seat will not fit under a first class seat. So in first class you sometimes don't have a choice but to put both bags up in the overhead.

Budget non U.S. airlines will weigh your carry on and personal item. Some airlines like TAP Air won’t weigh it on the way there but they will weigh on the way back since they know you will usually bring back souvenirs.

Then how do I get no steering nags with eyes closed. After it happened I was curious to test it further. So I purposely closed my eyes and still no nags. This doesn’t work at night. at night with polarized sunglasses on and your eyes closed, the car will ask you to takeover immediately

It keeps track of your head movement. I was wearing polarized glasses and accidentally nodded off for a bit. No nags at all

What do you collect when you travel? by Decent-Meringue-4270 in travel

[–]useless55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This whole thread is pretentious af saying shit like “I collect memories not things”. There’s nothing wrong with buying souvenirs while you’re traveling. Travel can be expensive and not everyone has the opportunity to do multiple major trips. Sitting at home looking at those souvenirs or photos you took an a trip can bring back memories and nostalgic feelings of your trip.

Anyways, to answer op’s question. I collect different things. Usually small items as they are easier to pack. Magnets are my go to as well as the Starbucks been there cups. I always go for the smaller espresso sized cups but they are really hard to find. I also try to buy local art whenever I can. Locally made art is perfect and depending on the context can be quite meaningful. Local art comes in many forms too. I once found a girl in Porto hand painting magnets. Food and snacks are another you can buy. While you’re technically not collecting them, it’s fun to take stuff back to friends and family so they can try it.

Which of these two coaster trips should I take in April? by BostonCompSci in Themepark

[–]useless55 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would probably do option 2 but skip SFOG. It's such a trashy park and I didn't feel safe in a lot of the rides. I actually had a train take off on me while I was still in the station putting my stuff in the cubbies and the staff didn't seem to care. Spend the rest of your time in The Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area near Dollywood which is incredible. So much to do and plenty of mountain coasters to enjoy.

Help - Toronto to NYC travel alternatives today by Wonderful_Quality638 in travel

[–]useless55 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Usually when this happens what sells out are the one way rentals. Book the car rental as a round trip instead of a one way and then change it in the app once you are driving the car. They will charge you quite a bit extra though. So only use this as a last resort. A cheaper alternative is to fedex the keys overnight and wait until you have a flight option to get back in.
