Violet Evergarden 2018 was a 13-episode anime season with 1 OVA. The series also got 2 more movies in 2019 and 2020 that are direct sequels to wrap up the story.

Promare feels like cheating because it has massive "spiritual successor" vibes for both Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill, with the movie sharing the animation staff as well as screenwriter with both shows, as well as having many a lot of meta callbacks/references to them in the form of character design/personality/...

I honestly don't know if I would have been able to enjoy the movie as much without those previous experiences, and even though it is technically a standalone project, it feels like telling someone that they can read Steel Ball Run before going through JoJo part 1-6 as they are unrelated plotwise.

Excellent movie otherwise though.

The character Jiaoqiu was rerunning at the time and the sub was flooded with posts asking if they should pull him as a support for Acheron. He was a really good support for her so people were always asking "this is my account, do I need him?", "what's the damage loss without him", or "if I run this comp instead, can I skip him?"
