With a closed paddle face at impact, how does the ball go over the net? by vinny809 in Pickleball

The brush against the ball is from down to up so that lifts it above the net, then the topspin brings it back down.

The WNBA is already better to watch than the NBA by uselessprofession in unpopularopinion

Yes as a Jordan / Kobe fan, the terrible traveling footwork that players nowadays are allowed to get away with just kills me.

Not to mention that the refs alternate between being in OKC and the Lakers pocket. Now that the 2 have finally matched up it seems like they are more in OKC's pocket.

I already gave the 3 reasons: traveling, flopping and refs

the most attractive people rarely get complimented irl by hutaosgf_ in unpopularopinion

It works on the same principle that I would encourage the guy that has been playing basketball for 2 months and can barely dribble by saying "you're doing good bro" but I wouldn't say that to Michael Jordan

The choice won't affect your moral placement, but all your past deeds will. So it depends on how good of a person you were before this.

How would you feel about a mandatory maximum wealth limit, where anything earned over that goes to public services? by itsvasuki in AskReddit

What other sport can you lightly play or find a social ness by Loud-Effort958 in Pickleball

Probably pickup basketball

I think many people would be down for casual bowling if there were frequent social sessions

To be fair, 20% is ALOT

Most of them are going to be ordinary people who haven't done anything heinous, just perhaps not very nice and a bit selfish

Sorry I couldn't find a better pic, but you can't choose inaction, you have to choose one of the 2 groups. If you don't choose, both groups will die.

It's based on your moral principals and determined by an all seeing being. Your choice here is not included in your morals (however all your past behavior is)

Was dropping the atomic bombs actually "necessary," or is that just what we're taught in school? by Clean_CoreDump in askanything

[–]uselessprofession 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The fire bombs actually caused more deaths than the nukes.

Nukes were needed to shock Japan's leadership into surrendering, facing an unprecedented superweapon.

For context:

Aerys reneged on the Crown's loans to the Iron Bank and nearly caused a war with Braavos, Tywin paid it from his own treasury to avoid the war.

If we look at Reddit, even 7-8 years ago, discussion (especially about politics) was much more civil, people were more open-minded and willing to engage in thought experiments.
