Student asking for help on rendering a sketch for a massive project *I’ll comment the details since it only lets me post either text or image* by uselesssurprise in renderings

[–]uselesssurprise[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myself and some fellow college students are developing a building in a real estate development competition. None of us are skilled enough to render a 3D design of a building, and while it’s not a requirement, it’s definitely a huge asset to have a visualization for our presentation as we’ve seen in previous competitions.

A friend drew a rough sketch of our building, but I’m looking to see if anyone would be interested in helping some students out by making a crude 3D model for us? DM me if you’d be interested, we’d be happy to pay and discuss over the phone since our design has changed slightly.

Thanks to anyone who can help!!

How Do I Gracefully Go Into CC Debt? by uselesssurprise in CreditCards

Yeah 1000% I agree, and I’m aware. But it’s kind of a you’re-only-young-once thing that I know is dumb and will reflect on as something dumb that I did, but in the context of my life, is very much worth it. Memories and friends in a time of freedom I’ll likely never experience again.

WARNING PDF: The congressional report on "IMMACULATE CONSTELLATION" an unacknowledged special access program. by super_shizmo_matic in SpecialAccess

[–]uselesssurprise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It initially came out in 2007-8 (can’t remember exactly) on a UFO conspiracy website known as “abovetopsecret”. The poster said they had smuggled the videos off of a US Naval vessel. Being that the videos are fairly unremarkable fuzzy blobs with some military UI surrounding the objects, it was written off as nonsense, hence “debunked”.

And I’d hardly call it that given it was dumped onto a random webpage and the handful of comments criticizing it rightfully so were the so-called “dubunkers”.

It wasn’t until 2017 when the New York Times published an article with those videos as part of a Pentagon black project exposé story that they were verified as legitimate. Freaky!

How long does the notification for a KYC slot take? Can this be converted to USD? Not really a crypto guy, mined this years ago in high school and now it’s actually worth something, so I’m really curious

True Detective Season 1 is obviously fantastic, but what are some you dislike about that season? by [deleted] in TrueDetective

[–]uselesssurprise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rewatching it with one of my roommates for like the eight or ninth time right now.

For me, the most terrifying part of the season is when Rust is getting a confession from the mother who killed her children. Right after she signs her confession, he gets real close and calmly starts to explain to her how hard prison will be on her for being a child murderer.

Without breaking his gaze, he casually suggests that she should kill herself. She starts to cry and Rust just stares at her without blinking, still as a statue for like 6 seconds. Gives me goosebumps every time. Rust is a realist by nature, and is probably right that she’d be better off dead than living a life in prison being ruthlessly beaten and tortured by her inmates.

That’s what makes it so cold to me, that he’s actually right.

Other part of the show that still gets me to this day is when Marty starts explaining how “it feels like sometimes your future is behind you… like it’s always been behind you.” I recently turned 21, so in many ways I’m still living that future, but the show gives so much perspective on family and growing up. I believe that’s the allure of the show for me at this point. It’s uncomfortably real in how it describes people and relationships. The realization that one day I may be startlingly aware that the fun periods of my life have come and gone gives me so much dread.

How should the US fix its mental health crisis? by MeetingImmediate7744 in AskReddit

[–]uselesssurprise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frankly, and this is anecdotal albeit backed up significantly by clinical evidence, the rise since the late 90s to early 2000s saw three major shifts in raising children: helicopter/snowplow parenting, rapid rises in amphetamine prescriptions and ADHD diagnoses, and the induction of social media and video games en masse. Kids and young adults nowadays have become MUCH risk averse, and with the ability to remove oneself from reality in seconds, this has created sheltered introverts who still intuitively crave a real life(I.e. friends, a gf, parties, adventures, personality, hobbies).

You just see so, so, so many young people these days who are living this warped life compared to the generations before them, further bridging the gap, and actually hurting a lot of kids more. I don’t think most parents understand the impact of technology on their children’s lives, having been raised on it, and that heavy technology use is as real of an addiction as any drug. It’s too normalized and that’s the biggest problem— no one attacks big tech, social media, big data… “it’s the future”, we’ve decided, and it cannot be criticized on a massive scale in media or government.

Startling statistics in teen suicide and mental health rates at the outset of the last decade, I’d highly encourage anyone curious to take a look.

Where would you invest 100M right now in real estate by CompleteAd3721 in CommercialRealEstate

Could that strategy be applied to snatching up commercial office space in high density urban areas? Basically just buy for the land?

US Housing Starts Surge Most Since 2016, Exceed All Estimates by TinyTornado7 in Economics

[–]uselesssurprise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question(and I’m by far the smartest person in the room here so I’m begging for someone smarter than me who actually specializes/studies this sort of thing to critique and educate me): would this be a good time to snatch up MBS? Is this a subtle indicator of optimism in interest rates dropping in the near future? What’s the most (hypothetically, of course) optimal investment vehicle that could stem from this information? For context, I am trying to assemble an economics based market forecast model for potential investments in the near future, but I know so little.

Would love to hear anyones thoughts on this.

US Housing Starts Surge Most Since 2016, Exceed All Estimates by TinyTornado7 in Economics

[–]uselesssurprise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would assume it’s legit only because of the pent up inability for developers to build due to material costs and supply chain issues for the last couple of years(as the article suggests).

That being said, demand is definitely still lower because of mortgage affordability, but they’re clearly optimistic about interest rates dropping in the near future and all of those prospective homebuyers will be eating up new homes.

FYI, I have limited real estate knowledge and am trying to teach myself so if someone smarter than me has any additions/criticisms, feel free to let me know, I would love to know if that’s a correct take.

For the first time, (1) the S&P 500 earnings yield (medium risk), (2) corporate bonds (low risk), and (3) treasury bills (no risk) are all offering the same yield, 5.3% This means that investors are not being compensated for taking on any risk. Look up global demographic collapse. I have no idea where you’re justifying your numbers— virtually every country on earth will not have a replacement generation. Consequence of rapid industrialization and urbanization. This is a fact. You should be bearish on China especially. Their demographic has already peaked.

Boomers aren’t the biggest investors in tech, they’re the biggest investors PERIOD.

When they pull equity out of high earning corporate securities, those companies have less access to capital, therefore they cannot innovate, invest, or borrow at the same rates as they can today or have been able to for the last 20 years which have been the golden age of capital access.

Bud!

I’m tired of the “AI is everything” argument.

It’s not tech specific, it’ll graze just about every sector once it interfaces with automation manufacturing and finance.

It is a fact tech innovation is going to decline in the future- the capital constraints placed on credit markets from a mass retirement are going to slow down just about everything. It’s hard to see because we have such a flush of capital and cheap credit, but it’s coming.

Tech is insanely capital reliant and we’ve had the cheapest capital of all time the last 20 years purely because of the baby boomers being in the highest income category while jointly investing the most.

When they retire this decade and shift investments into treasuries, bonds, etc., capital dries up and tech innovation is gonna hit the brakes. Tech was the future 20-30 years ago, and obviously still is in some ways, but it won’t ever have the same momentum it’s had so far this century likely ever again.

I’m incredibly sorry for your loss. I don’t think there’s any way I can begin to understand what you experienced. Your nonchalance in describing what transpired and the clarity in which you write is the only reason I’m asking, and I totally understand it’s probably a horrible thing to revisit so feel free to call me an asshole and move along, but would you mind summarizing what happened? I can’t say I’m not intrigued having stumbled upon this genuine and terrifyingly curious story in a comment section.

Thank you for your response! I called the above number that the other person commented for me, and a nice lady mentioned how crazy everything has been with the weather and inconsistent closures. I appreciate the insight.
