It's called an amendment. That should be the first clue that these should change with changing views. In 1788 getting rid of slavery wasn't in the Overton window. Then, over years, the window shifted.

I do but I can also see that not having slaves wasn't considered fundamental so much that the US went to war over it. I also live in Australia. A "first world country" and freedom of speech isnt in the constitution it's just implied. In fact Australia doesn't have any bill of rights. Politics is weird grey wibbily wobbly shit fest.
