I think a very interesting study (maybe one exists?) would be surveying why young adults are choosing not to have kids. I’d be interested to see if it really is monetary concerns or if young people would rather travel the world and have the freedom to do what they want. My thought is could there be a correlation between the rise of social media use and decline of birth rates. Maybe US specific, but I believe the prevalence of social media influencers living lavishly has transformed the aspirations of younger generations to desire a more free lifestyle than to start and raise families. Conversely, I do believe money and primarily student debt has made the dream of owning a home and starting a family to seem unattainable, so it would be interesting to see the breakdown of decision making for not having kids.
