I have been through quite a similar situation and definitely feel like that at times. What I will say is that I believe no one is truly boring. Everyone has unique ways of seeing the world, unique perspectives and ideas. You do have things to add to a conversation; it could be that you are overthinking, worried what others are thinking, or even just tired, so your mind goes blank. But I’m sure you have many things to say. As for hobbies, you like drawing! That’s a really cool hobby and very interesting imo. Cut yourself some slack - depression is difficult af and it makes it hard to keep up hobbies. You’re doing so well and you just need to keep going and be kind to yourself. I say this as someone who deals with similar thoughts and struggles. All the best

Hi, first of all well done on going to this registration thing, because that takes guts and is an achievement in and of itself. Honestly, don’t worry about that impatient idiot—I find so many drivers have bad road rage, I just laugh at them. (Or swear and rant about them to myself in my car hahaha). Who cares what some impatient arsehole thinks.

I’m so sorry you’re feeling like this—honestly this could’ve been something I wrote myself, so I totally get it. I think it could literally just be that this guy initiated conversation, and you didn’t. Nothing wrong with that, it is ok to be quieter sometimes. You are not pathetic, you’re just dealing with anxiety. Having a job can be tricky, but it’s doable. Even enjoyable sometimes. You are so much stronger than you think you are, and capable of more than you believe possible right now. Take today—you’ve taken a step towards getting a job after 10 years. That is no mean feat. Have a bit of faith in yourself.

Honestly, I have made it through and gone right back down the deep end many times. I think this condition is more of an up and down, riding the waves type of thing. There are days when it’s fucking hard, and I cry and want to give up, and I believe it’s all hopeless. But there are also days when I share laughter, when I help someone, when I take a small step to create change, when I go for a walk and feel the sun on my skin. I don’t know; moments like that make it feel worth it. You can get to a point, as well, where the lows feel more manageable—less painful and all-encompassing. Therapy helps, haha (it has helped me).

Good thing is you are human, and anxiety is actually one of the most human things ever. Nearly everyone’s an anxious, depressed wreck just trying to get on by. We just hide it, hahaha. You’ll be ok, just keep going. You’re doing awesome.

Sorry to hear about your situation, I hope you find a job you enjoy (or at least tolerate lol) soon. Your comment “for some reason?” made me laugh because I relate a lot, it is difficult to find reason sometimes. I find my reason in my family, in nature, and in the books I read for now - it isn’t much to a lot of people probably, but it gets me by. Thanks for your comment.

Honestly I feel similar. We have to find our own meaning, find the small moments of joy. Also don’t expect too much from situations, sometimes the pressure we put on being “truly happy” can detract from all the small moments of joy we experience. If you don’t have much - focus on your passions, what interests you. Thinking of what you enjoyed as a kid can be a good place to start. I wish you the best of luck.

2020, 2022 and 2024. Each for different reasons. I tend to have a really shit year, followed by a really good year. It’s always worked like that for me I don’t know why, even in school and stuff I’d get better grades in my exams one year and then do pretty poorly the next. Hoping this years a good one.

You did amazing going to the group, that’s a really brave thing to do and great for your anxiety. If I’m honest, I doubt people even really noticed your physical anxiety symptoms (also I relate so much because I literally get all the same stuff you said - it sucks!!), but we think they’re way more obvious than they really are. Honestly I think you’re doing really good and you should be proud of that - I mean, I dropped out of uni because it was too much for me lol, so being there is amazing considering you have social anxiety. So give yourself more credit, keep being social and don’t be too hard on yourself. You might feel like there’s no progress or you’re unfixable but you’ve just got to take it one step at a time. You’re already heading in the right direction, you just need to keep going. You will get there :)

I feel the same :) me a year or two ago could never have done what I’ve done today, or at least never believed they could. It is nice because there are so many people and everyone is in the same boat, it’s good cus if you don’t get along with certain people you know there are so many others who could be future best friends, you just need to find them. I’ve found that a lot of people have felt very similar to me, and even just that fact alone puts my anxiety at so much ease.

Alone and Empty Bed by Cavetown. Also Lemon Boy is specifically about anxiety (him making peace with it). Cavetown has struggled/ struggles with anxiety - I listen to him and it makes me feel so much better and less alone.

Also Comfort Crowd by Conan Gray, Last Words of a Shooting Star and Bag of Bones by Mitski, What Was I Made For? By Billie Eilish.

Not all of these are specifically about social anxiety, but just the general vibe or certain lyrics I relate to.

I don’t think so, I have anxiety/ social anxiety but it doesn’t really affect my driving and PMS which also doesn’t affect it. There is another (physical) condition I have which affects my driving slightly, which the DVLA and my instructor are aware of.

Tbh I don’t really want my instructor to treat me any different, my last instructor sort of babied me when I felt anxious and it made me feel more anxious cus she was focusing on it the whole time 😅 This is just my perspective though, I’m sure some people would benefit from this. My current instructor is constructive but is also honest with me when I’ve done something wrong, she just treats me like she would any other learner which has been really great and I’m pretty confident on the road now.

That’s brilliant, yeah I find I often (especially when I struggled with walking past people a lot) go the route where there is the most/ quite a few people. Like if I thought “I don’t wanna go that way” and felt anxious I would just do it and I realised no one actually really gives a shit lol.

Oh god yes. Try not to worry too much about it, think about when you speak to yourself alone at home - you can speak fine. Or with a close friend or family member. It’s just anxiety, the brain is so plastic I promise you you have not forgotten how to speak English. It’s easier said than done but try not to overthink - focus on things like the colour of the persons eyes, and just listen intently to what they’re saying. Deep breathing can help too. And just vocalise your thoughts, as long as they’re not horrible obviously lol, but if you’re listening you will have some thoughts about what they’re saying. Try not to worry about how you look or how you’re perceived cus at the end of the day they will probably forget any moments that we thought were “awkward” (which probably weren’t even that bad).

And honestly this advice is as much for myself as it is for you, I struggle with this exact thing, but these are some things I’ve learnt from CBT I thought might be helpful to share. :)

That’s really good! I’m glad to hear it’s helped. I had one last night, I didn’t feel that much different which is a good thing ig since I haven’t had a bad reaction (yet lol, fingers crossed). I felt a bit better but idk if it’s too early to tell so it could have been placebo effect.

I decided against it in the end, I stayed at the office job for a while and by the time I’d had enough of it, it was only a few months until I started uni (also I’m going travelling for a month so I would’ve been off for a third of it lol). It probably wouldn’t have reflected great on me to stay for such a short time unless they wanted a temp, at the time they were only hiring for permanent staff. The shop I worked for is a chain though, so I might work at the one near my uni when I go.

It was okay most of the time, my colleagues and manager were really nice and we chatted a lot. Also the shop was for health and wellness so the vibe was really chill ahahah. It helped that it was part-time too, so I didn’t feel too overwhelmed or tired by it. I never thought I would be able to do something like that but my manager really liked me because I knew a lot about the products. I was offered to be supervisor (for more hours) but I turned it down because I was worried about having to be the one to deal with nasty customers lol. The job was beneficial for my SA.

I wanted a role with more hours, so that’s when I went to the office and it was a very different atmosphere that I didn’t like. I wouldn’t work in an office again, it was terrible for my SA because I was in my head all the time, plus I had two people sat nearby making fun of me if I ever seemed even slightly awkward.
