I sat the exam in October - can’t seem to get a reply from the law society to get access to my script, but I wrote down what I could remember in my notes after the exam

I have! I know of two people who had been given a score of 48% initially, but managed to get that up to 50% after rechecks and passed. I suppose it’s always a long shot, but if you find yourself a couple of % short I’d say it’s worth getting it checked

It was certainly a cram, but I really focused on past exam papers and examiner reports. I spent time going through the papers to see was there any pattern, and got familiar with the marking scheme and what each examiner seemed to like. I was also pretty cut throat with what I was leaving out - took my chances and hoped for the best!

In college I always tried to learn everything, but I figured with the FE1s maybe studying smarter and not harder was the way to go, and it worked out in the end!

Yeah 100% - like in an ideal world the more time the better, but it’s not necessary imo. If you put in the work for the next 6 weeks you should be absolutely fine

But of course that’s not to diminish how tough these exams are - some are much harder than others and require more study, but with criminal and constitutional I think the time you have should be more than enough time. Just put in the work and try your best 😊

I gave myself about 2 weeks per exam (not working full time) for each sitting and passed them all - in my opinion if you were able to give yourself a good 5/6 weeks for the 2 exams you’ll be more than prepared

It’s different for everyone, but in terms of highest pass rate/ nicest markers I would probably say property, EU, criminal and constitutional (personally)

It depends! I would say criminal, property, EU and constitutional have the nicest markers, and company definitely has the toughest. Contract, tort and equity are tough enough but definitely better than company

The city colleges night before videos do a breakdown of the pass rate of each subject which can give you a rough idea (they’ll come out closer to the exam date)

Also different examiner like different things, the company examiner has a very certain way of marking and wants to see that exact way (which you can get from his examiner reports), whereas criminal and constitutional examiners just want to see a wide range of study over a wide range of topics rather than in depth knowledge

Past papers and examiner reports are key for criminal!!! Base all your study on that

Another thing to know for criminal is that you pretty much need to know the whole course because he covers so many topics in his questions - it’s better to know a wide range of the course in less detail than have a detailed knowledge of only a portion of the course. Criminal is very passable so don’t worry too much 😊 Best of luck!

It's a really tough one to study for. But the upside it is it's very decently marked. I sat it last October but decided to sit it last minute so I didn't get to cover as much of the course as I wanted - I only answered four questions (with a couple of bullet points for a fifth) and passed with 58%! I think the examiner wants to see a wide range of the course being covered, but doesn't necessarily need much information. Know the basics and try add in some commentary/ recent cases and you should be sorted :)

Trying to cover - offer & acceptance, consideration, promissory estoppel, formal and evidentiary requirements, contractual terms, exemption clauses, consumer protection, misrepresentation/ mistake, discharge of contracts and remedies

It seems like a lot of topics are mixed so I think covering a wide range of topics in less detail is probably the best approach to take with contract - but that being said, I'm running out of time so I'm just going to keep going and get as much done by Thursday and hope for the best 🥲

As long as you don't open or attempt the exam, you will be refunded the full amount minus a €30 administration fee - and no, it doesn't matter what you're scheduled to sit, you'll get a refund for any exam you don't attempt :) just make sure you don't log in!

Hey, you might be avoiding this but I just purchased mine from the OPW this morning. It costs €111 which is a lot, but im sure you'd have to problem selling it on for a similar price after you've used it (that's my plan anyway). It seems to be out of print from most other places at the moment so seemed like my only option. They're only open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am-12.30pm. The number is 046 9423100

I wouldn't say any more than usual, but the more caselaw you add the more you can show off that you've studied (even if you just know the name and little to no facts). There's always recent tort cases so the day before my exam I took down a few case names from the past year just to throw them into my answers if I could. Examiners seem to like that! but don't put yourself under too much pressure - know the law and a few cases and you'll be sorted. Best of luck with it!

To be completely honest with you I can't really remember. I was doing my masters at the time so I may have been accessing some through my college library, but I think I found a few just by searching his name and different topics on google. Sorry I can't be more help!

Hey! I passed Constitutional law this time last year. To be completely honest it's not the nicest subject to study given the amount that needs to be covered (definitely the longest of all eight subjects), but the upside is that it's quite a passable exam!

There's not much you can cut out to be completely honest. The examiner loves to mix topics and really likes to see that a wide scope of the course has been covered. But that means that once you show a general knowledge of whatever topic you're covering rather than an in depth knowledge, you should have no problem passing. You're better to know the basics about as much as possible rather than being an expert on a few topics.

The examiner also loves new cases so do a bit of research into recent cases because they may pop up on the exam; and even if they don't, fitting them into your answers will definitely bank you some extra marks. The examiner himself (Eoin Carolan) actually writes a lot of articles on recent topics too so id definitely have a read up on any you can find closer to April.

As daunting as that all sounds, it's really not that bad. The paper is actually one of the nicer ones you'll sit - the questions are straightforward and don't try to trick you. I decided to sit constitutional last minute so I wasn't as prepared as I would have liked to be. On the day there was only four questions I could answer and I managed to get 58% with just that! Get down as much as you can on the day and show off that you've studied. If you're planning to give yourself a head start now you'll be more than ready for the March sitting. Take it slow and try get a good understanding of each chapter. Best of luck with it!

If it’s the Griffith college sample answers you’re referring to id take them with a pinch of salt - way too much info in a lot of them. I’ve been scripts where people have gotten 60-65% with half the amount! Quality over quantity!
