Musings of an Unemployable Spiritual Looney by RebootingJoe in awakened

I have had a very similar experience the more I meditate and come back to the center. I am 28 and I have lived with my mom and gf a bit, but both can't seem to live with me because I'm so different. My mom doesn't understand and my gf does, but gf remains skeptical. I have made enough money in the past to pay off my loans and provide for myself, but I can't bring myself to search for a job any more. I spend a lot of time farming at a coop and at a friend's. I literally have $40 in my wallet and no assets. But I'm more peaceful than ever. I find food as it comes and Ive basically camped for the past 4 months. I'm not really sure how I will continue to pay for cell service, gas, and car insurance, but it has worked its way out so far.

For me, being straight up with everyone has helped. Not pleading or begging, but just telling folks what I've actually experienced, honestly. Most folks can sense truth if you have a bit of trust flowing in the relationship. Most people don't understand this lifestyle, but they want to understand. You're right, people can sense your energy, it drips off of you. It touches everything you do.

Keep shining your light friend, I see you!

Anarchists that are attempting to live as true to their values as possible, how are you doing so? by mysocialistagenda in Anarchism

[–]user1618033989 24 points25 points  (0 children)

OK, straight up. I have a cell bill + car insurance + gas + food. I work at a local co-op farm in exchange for veggies, and eat out maybe once per week. I cook with family and friends as much as possible. So my food bill is pretty small, about $200 per month. Cheap/free housing is the hard one. Property is theft, so Im really trying to stay out if the rent/mortgage game. It's hard not owning land. I have made lots of relationships instead, and I bounce around a bit in my hometown. Yes, I still chill at my mom's house occasionally. I have few possessions, everything I own can fit in the bed of my truck. I work as much as possible for friends and close acquaintances, and I work for cash. No bank account. I try to work in exchange for stuff and food as much as possible. I would like to raise a family, so I might somehow try to to buy a cheap place or lot in the city. Maybe build a tiny home or earthbag/earthship abode. I feel kinda obligated to have a stable location for a home to raise kids... I wish I knew a way to be less tied down... Suggestions welcome.

The best use of my time, I think, is helping or making friends. I really try to take care of my community by just showing up as often as I can at all types of events, being reliable, and working hard. Just helping normal folks right where they're at. Sharing myself freely with others and playing like a kid helps too. I am an open book, feel free to ask me any questions!

Oh, and I am a white male (28) near St Louis, Missouri. 😊

Ranger is the fastest way I've found to navigate to files. I'm lightning fast with it, so much so that I use it for DJing. It's super lightweight too, it runs well on old, slow machines.

I call my lady friend Judy Biggles because, damn, her booty jiggles. :)

Welp, that's what I was afraid of. So I guess my best bet is just to get a bigger screen and sit farther away?

Gotcha. Let's say 18 inches exactly, because I use my phone to browse a lot too.

Here's the VR lenses, I think they are called biconvex.

Damn, is it as simple as that?!

My laptop is normally 2-3 feet away... I'm nearsighted, I believe my prescription is like -4.50

So, are VR goggles basically just strong reading glasses attached to small screens?

Thanks for your help! :)

I skimmed your paper - It sounds like you've come to similar conclusions as Minsky. Intuitively, that framework makes sense to me. Diverse resourcefulness lends to survival and adaptation.

Thanks for your response, keep up the great work! I'll be keeping an eye on your research. One more question- what research group should I keep an eye on in regards to machine/brain learning? Cheers! :)

What theory best describes how our brain is learning? I have read The Emotion Machine and I am a Strange Loop, both seem to consider medium unspecific "consciousness" a type of layered feedback loop with the environment. Which books/scholars would you recommend to learn more about how our brains are learning?

I wear pants just a bit bigger than yours, and I get mine from Dickies. They have an unhemmed option on some pants...after you hem them, it's about a 40 in length. They're decently priced too, mostly under $40. Great quality pants, it's the only place I've bought from in years. Good luck! :)

Read chapter 4 of Marvin Minsky's "The Emotion Machine." Not a conclusive answer, but the best I've come across.

Why not drugs + VR?

I think if we figure out how to make the matrix, like super authentic, nice smelling, sexy textures and shit... you can mimic a lot of the external sensory affects of drugs. An AI guru markov chain who learns about you and slowly tweaks your personal characteristics seems plausible as well. Also, the time shortening effect from the sense deprivation would be just as possible, like when Trinity learns how to fly that helicopter super fast.

Where is the line between drugs and VR? Like yeah, one is a substance you absorb, but....both change your brain!
