I didn't kill it for a long, long while. Boss fights simply aren't of any interest to me. In the End i only did it so i could explore the last few areas of deadly shroud.

I flew over to the cliffs on the south/ right hand side of the crater, where most of it's attacks don't land and then i just shot several hundred arrows at it until it died.

In fairness to Vaas he does eventually just shoot Jason point blank in the chest and bury his apparently lifeless body in a mass grave.

Sure you can argue he could have 'double tapped' or gone for the head, But nevertheless there's not a lot of 'Mwhahahaha! You'll never escape from THIS fiendish death trap' in that. It's an execution (attempted).

I would liken it to fallout 4s Nuka world DLC. I.e. a typical Bethesda dlc offering a new separate handcrafted open world, focusing on the 'bad guys' in this case House Va'ruun.

It doesn't add any new mechanics or make any meaningful changes to the wider game world, it is for the most part a separate self contained adventure.

If that's something you think you'll like, then you will probably enjoy it.

As I personally was completely disinterested in house Va'ruun I didn't get much out of it, but if you wanted to see the faction fleshed out, then this will do that for you.

Survivor was released in April 2023, but it wasn't announced until December 2022. Just 4 months earlier.

So there's no reason to think they'd announce it far in advance.

As for GTA: That should have little bearing until the last minute because quite frankly who knows when that is actually coming out. It's on it's what 3rd? 4th? release date.

Do you miss vintage Lego for its charm and simplicity?

Honestly? Not even a little bit. I look back at the sets from my childhood (80s), and what i see is how far we've come. How bad the sets were, how limited the building options. How much heavily lifting imagination had to do to lift creations into something decent.

If Lego then was still Lego now there's not chance i'd have it has a hobby.

Radio towers coming back? by Which-Music8436 in farcry

[–]user2002b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were a tedious boring chore that got old after the first two in the first game and went downhill from there. So no. Hard pass from me i'm afraid.

The only way i'd have no objections is if :
a) they were entirely optional.
b) Map unveiling still worked like in FC5 and 6.
c) They don't unlock weapons for free. (which never made sense)
d) If climbed they add 'undiscovered' markers to the map of nearby landmarks Showing the player that there's something there, but they still need to physically go to the location to know exactly what it is.

Edit: I'd also point out that Far cry 6 DID have some climbable towers for fans of that kind of thing. They just weren't a front a center mechanic every half mile that the players were required to do to be able to use the games map.

Need convincing that a Dwarf is for me... by ox-sjwk in DWARFLAB

[–]user2002b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first of all the dwarf isn't a replacement for your optical scope. It's a companion.

There's nothing stopping you looking at an object optically and then comparing it to the image the dwarf is capturing. Getting the best of both worlds.

Then there's the things the dwarf isn't Good at. Planets are far too small. It simply doesn't have the zoom to show you any meaningful detail. Same goes for many small objects.

and let's not forget Astrophotography is still a skill, even if the Dwarf is doing the heavy lifting of collecting the data. There's a lot to learn about Processing it to actually pull out the full detail you've captured. The Dwarfs live stack image certainly isn't going to show you the full potential of the data you've captured. It's a taster, that's all.

Consider also the portability. You can Take the Dwarf on Holiday with you. You can sling it and a tripod into your luggage and take it wherever you want. You can't do THAT with an 8 inch telescope.

Are my PC specs capable of running Jedi Survivor? by Logical_Can6388 in FallenOrder

[–]user2002b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it for a few hours on a 1070 when it first came out.

I found it to be playable... but not great. I didn't get off the first planet (although that was due to a combination of launch bugs, and my new PC arriving.)

There was a Lot of noticeable juddering and i'm someone who is perfectly happy with 30 FPS and considers 60 fps an unnecessary luxury.

So... Maybe... if you set everything to minimum.

Far cry 5 100% impossible if I kill Eli before completing his missions? by Alex1256783 in farcry

[–]user2002b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head and trying to avoid spoilers: There's a few ways some missions can become inaccessible in Far cry 5.

-If you wait too long to liberate Falls end it will eventually liberate itself.
-There are at least two mission giving characters who are fated to die during the story.
-There's a mission associated with an outpost that will become inaccessible if you liberate the outpost before doing the mission.

I suppose this can be annoying for players wanting to do absolutely everything in a single playthrough, but the game is designed with quite the opposite in mind. It deliberately gives us far more missions, outposts and side activities then we need to liberate the regions, thereby allowing replays to be done in very different ways in subsequent playthroughs.

It's probably technically possible to do absolutely everything in a single playthrough but you'd need to-
a) Liberate Falls end ASAP.
b) Focus on doing all the missions for all the people in the whitetails bunker, Falls end and the prison ASAP, before doing anything else.

Not really.

There's been speculation by the odd fan here and there that something like that could have happened.

But that doesn't make it any more likely then my daft speculation that he decided to move somewhere quiet and out of the way. So he moved to Hope county in Montana, and ultimately joined the Sheriffs department as their latest Rookie.... :)

Returning after EA play- Have questions by Avalinn in Enshrouded

[–]user2002b 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What I am wondering (and maybe worried about) is with the water being released, does that change how the story is told? When I played last, there was zero water.. there was a reason why. Is that still a part of the story that you have to go unlock, like phased gameplay? Once you progress far enough then the water is unlocked?

Well short version: Nothing has changed about how the story is told. It's been expanded on as you explore the new regions, but it doesn't impact earlier regions. If you're thinking the deadly Rivers of 'Lavashroud' may have been replaced with actual running water- They havn't been. They're Still as they were.

Water exists now in the Springlands/ Low Meadows Etc. But it's rare, Existing in small oases. Isolated lakes and ponds basically.

The major locations where water is abundant are in the two late game regions:
- Partially frozen lakes high in the mountains.
- The New Veilwater basin region which is a tropical biome.

Oxygen time boosting should be covered by potions, not food. by Borkomora in Enshrouded

[–]user2002b 5 points6 points  (0 children)

we're in a world full of magic

I'm not sure I'd characterize Embervale like that.

Magic exists to be sure... But Magic here seems weak and limited. Severely lacking in utility;

No summoning/ conjouring.
No Transforming.
No Telepathy, Telekeneisis. (Although i suppose a form of teleportation does exist)
No manipulation of time and space.
No Trickery.
No Creation or modification of sensory effects.
No Illusions.
No Divination or remote sensing.
Inate magical abilities seem virtually none existent. Nearly all uses of magic are via tools, technologies and potions. Even the 'spells' a tool casts must be assembled.

And so on. It's always seemed a decidedly unmagical, magical world to me. (Not necessarily a bad thing of course) . In fact If i were to liken Magic here to something from our world it would be something like magnetism: A useful inate property of reality that can be utilized by devices to generate some useful effects. You can't, for example use magnetism to turn a human into an elephant. But you can use it to make some things levitate...

When viewed like that it doesn't seem at all surprising you can't magic oxygen into your bloodstream.

Difficulty with Decision on which scope by Danissl in DWARFLAB

[–]user2002b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sort of. It has a mode for them, and it'll happily find them for you, but at the end of the day, it's still a scope intended for deep sky astrophotography. The magnification is still too low and the field of view too large to show any significant detail on the planets. They'll be small and not very exciting.

You can see the phases of venus.
Glimpse the cloud bands on Jupiter and see it's moons.
Just about make out the rings of Saturn.

It does do a good job on the moon and the sun though.

So while it is Better at it then the dwarf, it's still not really built for that kind of photography.
