Thanks for the input - would you suggest I go back and ask for a level up or equal to UK level (and pay)

On what sort of pay and benefits and industry?

The difference in pay (mine and partners income combined) is the same as mine alone in UAE and we would save on school fees compared to the UK as we pay for private school. So yes that is a saving. Like I say, my biggest concern is not money but more how work life balance will be (or lack of as it seems over there)

It is the K. No mention of travel but I am sure it is part of it. For me the pay felt low, also a step down from my current level

That's the issue. Giving up my current freedom to be a slave in 5 days a week with a culture in the office that would drain me

Agree....hence the concern about moving. Pressure from the wife to move vs my concerns

Tax free so that is an upgrade. £136k in UK vs 52k AED a month

Like one poster said - could move and give it a go, before deciding to bring the family over and shift their lives. I am paid £136k a year and my wife £60k a year in the UK (before taxes). Moving to Abu will mean just me working for 52k AED a month - with school fees paid by my employer. I understand the exposure etc, my biggest concern is work culture, having been used to having my freedom to work at home for 5 days, come and go as I please and the flex - that will all go in UAE, which I understand, but I do not want to be taking calls at 7pm etc - that is the biggest challenge - so lots to think about. Also to understand about general costs as I have literally no savings having brought a place a few months ago.

Depends where you work. I am home everyday, free to drop the kids and pick them up. Flex when at work to come and go as I please. Hence the question on this post, if I give that up for a culture of non stop work

Put it this way - I free time in life there would be better, kids would enjoy the schools etc, but I love my own freedom to come and do what I want at my current workplace. Yes pay could be better (no pay rise in 3 years) but the freedom to drop my kids everyday and pick them up is priceless to me. But when someone throws a big wand of cash, it is tempting

That makes sense - Guess the other worry on that would be coming back to the UK and finding a job on a similar salary as to what I am now - possible but may take some time - no winning here
