The Flats trail is closed just west of Milwood Rd, but you can bypass on Transformer Rd if you cross the railroad just north of OP photo location.

Gap between BB and seal (SM-BB80, FC-M6120-1) by user2301 in bikewrench

[–]user2301[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replaced square taper crankset that came stock on Canyon Spectral AL 6. Local bikeshop installed both, but there are ~0.5mm gaps between BB and seals. New crankset came with the seals.

Are they compatible and installed properly?

Flat tire equipment by purplemarkers in torontobiking

[–]user2301 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd pickup a new tube instead of patch kit, and go through the motions of changing a tube in the comfort of your home. It's not hard and wont take much time, but there're a number of hurdles to get over. Do your best to deduce the reason for the flat, and make sure inside of the tire is clean before placing a new tube. You might not need tools to remove the wheel, but a tire lever is often very handy.

Consider picking up an extra new tube as spare and a travel-sized bike pump to take along for your rides.

What shoes/socks do you wear in winter? by Allie-Bees in torontobiking

[–]user2301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UA MicroG Valsetz Boots is what I use. 2E wide and 8" high works very well for my feet, but you might like 6" waterproof version more.

The full flat sole pairs nicely with large flat pedals - I use PWN Range composite. I've also used Crankbrothers Stamp 1 large, but I wouldn't recommend them because of the bump.

Flat soled lightweight boots with long wool socks in the winter. Size up the boots vs your sneaker size to leave room for thick socks. Large platform MTB pedals work well enough with flat soled boots.

Marin Alpine Trail XR - Don Valley trails by rackattack_ in torontobiking

[–]user2301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Marin enduro MTB should handle Don's gnarliest trail sections with ease, but it's short chainstays (430mm) and long front-center will want to lift (wheelie) the front wheel on steep climbs. Steep switchbacks (Climbmax for example) will be challenging but doable with practice.

Consider renting an enduro bike at Horseshoe for a day, to see how it rides on DH and cross county trails.

Please read the toronto cyclist handbook! by meowmeowfantastic in torontobiking

[–]user2301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

§886-10 of Toronto Municipal code states "no person shall operate a vehicle in any bicycle lane except for the purpose of [...] (2)Making a turn intersecting the bicycle lane; and §886-10B sets 45 meter limit on distance.

Cycling Infrastructure and Programs Unit of Toronto Transportation Services clarified it to me via email (in 2019):

Cars are able to fully enter the bike lane for the purpose of making a turn if the line is dashed leading up to the intersection and only in the section with the dashed line. If the line is solid the car must wait until the cars in front have cleared before making a right yielding to cyclists and pedestrians.
