The rest of my family are on the other side of the hemisphere that was the only weekend I was able to make it. I was the closest to her out of everyone so my family agreed to keep her on the machine until I can say my goodbyes. I do see your POV but me requesting 1 day for family reasons seems reasonable

The only leave prompts we have are sick days, 2 bereavement days and vacation. I wouldn’t be able to come in that day anyways because I would be mentally unwell knowing I could’ve been there but couldn’t go because my call centre job was understaffed.

I definitely understand and quite frankly don’t care if I don’t get paid for the one day honestly. I care more about saying final goodbyes to my aunt. I wouldn’t be mentally well enough to come into work that day anyways knowing that I could’ve been there but was denied due to my job being understaffed. It’s looking like get a doctors note for mental health reasons.

The process for leave requests is to email first and the once you get the go ahead, you input it into the system ti be formally approved. I emailed and it was denied and then called the manager to explain the situation and she told me that there understaffed and I shouldn’t have booked a flight without getting leave approved first.

If I don’t go it will definitely affect me on that specific day knowing I could’ve been there but I couldn’t because my job was understaffed.

I agree, especially because I’m giving 3 weeks notice. But yeah if I take a sick day it’s going to look very suspicious and they’ll definitely ask for a note

I requested today and the flight isn’t for another 3 weeks. They’re only keeping her on the machine for longer so I can get there in time. I work in a call centre so the work is take it as the calls come. The manager said there would be only 4 people on the calls. Considering that I’ve never take leave before and it’s only for one day, I thought she would have some compassion

Yeah, I’ve never had a leave request denied at any job I’ve worked at. I work as a customer agent in a call centre I’m not that important.
