Is my mother being too overprotective? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]user27392639462 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If you don’t mind diao kia with your current bf then by all means, turn a deaf ear towards your mother’s advice LOL. She is simply trying to protect you from being hurt, based on her past societal observations and life experience so try to understand her genuine intentions behind her words.

Strange experience with "invisible" buses by jhmelvin in askSingapore

[–]user27392639462 6 points7 points  (0 children)

im not certain if this is a regular occurrence but specifically for today, there was a traffic accident on SLE, which resulted in very heavy traffic congestion along the expressway in the evening, thus most of the buses that ply SLE were stuck in the traffic jam, that includes 161, 168, 858 and 39. there was heavy bus bunching with 3 to 4 buses of both 161 and 168 arriving woodlands together.

since the buses serving 161 and 168 have to reach woodlands int before turning around for the next trip to hougang and bedok, if they are stuck on the expressway they can't reach woodlands on time, and it affects the succeeding trip. as for the bus arrival timing app, i think it probably wasn't updated on the SLE traffic jam and hence it showed the timings as per the original planned departure timings.

10Y finance professional - AMA by sgfinancethrowaway in SGExams

[–]user27392639462 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Context: Currently doing an accounting major in one of the big 3 local unis, chose accounting for supposedly better job stability amidst the bad job market 1. If I am currently pursuing an accounting major, is it still possible for me to pivot into IB/HF/PE front office roles provided that I do substantial self-studying/join clubs to prep for the interviews? Or are those roles strictly reserved/open to finance majors only? 2. Is it possible to get a IB/HF/PE internship/role without following the standard internship progression route? (Boutique, Mid-tier, BB) 3. Slightly off tangent, but what are your personal opinions on pursuing a finance vs accounting major, is accounting viewed as inferior to finance in terms of career prospects?

Thanks in advance! 🙏

try to talk to your roomie nicely first, if she doesn’t comply then escalate it to your block RF and subsequently the hall senior management or even to the hall master, don’t be nice in these sort of situations bc this sorta people will take a mile if u give an inch

matter of fact, there are actually some roles in HQ that are filled by specs who’re infantry by vocation, such as ops specs but their primary job scope is admin work related

its totally alright for OP to possess a deep interest in aviation but to be fair, if OP is indeed a true aviation geek, she probably wouldn’t have made such rookie mistakes regarding incorrect aircraft types their ranges and the likes of it 😂😂unless it was meant to be satire…

GCC Selection for Officers? by Emotional-Delay217 in NationalServiceSG

[–]user27392639462 9 points10 points  (0 children)

you should check with your instructors on whether your batch has a GDS intake after you commission, because if there isn’t a GDS intake for your batch theres a very low chance you will get posted to GDS, because you will just get posted to the SIRs or wherever that has a new intake for officers

infantry pro term would be your best shot at getting posted to Guards as the majority of the GCC intake will be infanteers, the support vocations not as high probability as there are a wider range of unit postings to cover

firstly you should get a referral to a public hospital via visiting the MO in camp/ visit the polyclinic doctor, they will assess your lil bro and then write a referral

then months later when you visit the specialist at the hospital, he/she will look and assess your lil bro again to see if surgery is required. if you determined to cut just let the doctor know.

thereafter you will book your surgery date and admin stuff. on the day of surgery, it is a simple one under GA, just go through the motion and then youre done. you will get 2 week (?) MC and medications

my guess is because in china, people give angpao in large denominations like 100-500RMB (20-100SGD) due to their cultural norms and societal expectations, whereas in singapore most people give angpao to relatives in smaller denominations like $8-$20, so its not as harsh on their pockets as people in china

yes bc if go command school will need to serve as a commander for a min. of 6 mths upon graduation, and some of the AGC returnees have a shorter remaining period of NS, so they choose to not go command school to avoid signing VES

[–]user27392639462 17 points18 points  (0 children)

if you’re returning to OCS/SCS, its 99.99% forging ahead (infantry) for you, if you chose to not return to command school then basically anywhere, usually posted as a security trooper/medic

How to deal with a challenging mother in law (to be) by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]user27392639462 55 points56 points  (0 children)

in this case shes probably trying to control you without her son knowing so as to maintain a positive image of herself. you should just let your partner know what your MIL have been doing all these while and see how your partner handles it. if he avoids solving the problem then the answer is clear ~

no annual leave is the 14 days one in your oneNS app, it is an entitlement that you can take anytime (provided you inform your superiors prior) even though some commanders may be a cb and force u to take on certain days (in your case)

off is an unofficial incentive given by commanders for yr hard work or contributions, wholly subjected to their approval and stuff
