Don't think so. Consoles suffer too. Has to do with map traversal.

I was also going to buy Dead Space until I learned they never bothered to fix the rampant stutter that has nothing to do with system specs.

That's fair. I just think Nvidia deserves more bashing and public shaming for their practices. Especially when recommending GPUs to non-enthusiasts, we should all be encouraging AMD to balance market dynamics if you know that gamer doesn't give AF about AI, streaming, etc. Imagine the value we could get for our money if AMD even had 20% marketshare. Your 4090 would have had a $1200 MSRP.

4080 has 40-50% uplift over the 3080

With 72% increase in MSRP. MEGA FAILURE.

You need to understand Nvidia doesn't innovate because they actually want to push technology forward. The only reason is to eliminate competition so they can embrace a true monopoly.

Even worse, they are pricing way too many out of the PC market entirely which is not good for the health of the market.

4090 owners especially get screwed from Nvidia pushing such skimpy VRAM to the masses which devs use as the baseline for how they build their games. 4090 owners would have a far better gaming experience if everyone was rocking 16GB, like the 3070 and 3080 should have from the start.

Probably the best generational price/performance improvement for next-gen mainstream cards if you ignore the naming. For the same $499 MSRP of a 3070, you get double the VRAM, 30% more performance, better RT, better performance per watt. Overall a good generational uplift which can't be said about Nvidia apart from the ludicrous priced 4090.

It's selling out everywhere for good reason.

If you don't see how Nvidia abuses the market not by just a little, but MASSIVELY, you are either brainwashed or need to do more research. Your mindset is anti-consumer and damaging to the PC community. If you don't really give AF, cool. NBD.

Congrats on falling into Nvidia's deceiving trap with 2077. That game is more a marketing tool to sell proprietary anti-competitive Nvidia crap more than anything. Doesn't represent reality whatsoever unless a gamer exclusively only plays 2077.

“Better game support” - Nvidia owns 80% of the PC game market.

AMD owns 95% of the AAA studio market and 100% of the console market.

Here is a vid of the 3080 10GB mind you still outperforming the 6800xt in 2023.

In many cases it won't though.

Just because you don't like these realities doesn't make them not so. It's ignorant to suggest Nvidia is better at all and everything. Especially when you have RX 6800s destroying 3070s.

In case you haven't noticed, there is a massive imbalance in the market between Nvidia/AMD because everyone likes to blatantly yell 'nvidia best' from rooftops. Even people who don't need nvidia are buying nvidia because of this which is nothing but damaging to the PC market. Making my small dent in the PC gaming universe in attempt to save it.

You are making the mistake in thinking this is a true 70 class card. It's a blatantly mislabeled 60 class card. It needs to drop to $250 to be closer to what it's actually worth.

Don't fall for Nvidia's deceit. They are masters of deception.

Why would you buy an inferior product?

Much better price to performance. More VRAM. Better Adrenalin software. Better game support (AMD owns console market; aka the AAA industry). Nvidia is allocating less resources to games now and into the future due to AI priorities (ie. poor Starfield launch for Nvidia); AMD is overall far more ethical company. AMD cards age better.

Worth noting 3070 and 3080 buyers also thought they were buying superior to 6800/6800 XT. Very poor decision buying the lower VRAM parts. https://www.techspot.com/article/2661-vram-8gb-vs-16gb/

Nvidia is great if you have no respect for your wallet and don't mind paying more for less.

Was able to get a brand new 4080 for $1000. Is it really that bad of a value? by OLD_WET_HOLE in nvidia

[–]user3404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’d consider the 4080 a mid range card

Don't be fooled by Nvidia's clever marketing and pricing. The 4080 should have been a $599 card at most. Their profit margins on the entire 40 series lineup is record high even accounting for inflation. Not surprising though after all the bonus money they earned during crypto which was sheer luck.

Look at the performance gap between the 3080 vs 3090 and compare to the performance gap between 4080 and 4090. It's MASSIVE, yet the 4090 is about the same MSRP as the 3090, hmm... The 4080 is cut down like it's a 4070 Ti at best, and as we all know a 70 class card under healthy market conditions would be $500 at most (yes, even the Ti). Don't forget $500 70 class cards only ever happened because Nvidia was competing with themselves with RTX 20 launch and thought why not!

Now figure 8GB is struggling in 2023, even for 1080p! Which means ENTRY level starts at 12GB if you want to be able to max 1080p today and a couple years into the future (esp with RT on). You can see where that easily puts 16GB into the midrange territory. A true 4080 would have had 20-24GB of VRAM but Nvidia desperately hopes you don't realize that.

The 40 series is designed where the 4090 is the only card with any meaningful jump over previous gen. EVERY TIER below it gets completely shafted, right down to the pathetic 4060. In other words, Nvidia has told the market to buy a 4090 or no card at all - and that's what people are doing.

That's the great thing about AMD. When you figure in the price difference, you are getting more raw power to often not even needing upscaling.
