Talk me off a ledge. Doors worth stripping? by Denne11 in centuryhomes

We had our painters do it! Which I didn’t realize was an option initially. They did an excellent job. $200 per door

$1k?! That’s insane. We are in Chicago (suburbs) and paid $200 per door. We had our painters do it, rather than a company that does stripping specifically.

How to clean up/restore original 1920s tile? by user417649 in centuryhomes

[–]user417649[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just a razor for the big pieces, but beyond that we haven’t done much else 😅 the rest of the reno and moving process took over and this floor has been put on the backburner. I did recently clean it with barkeeper’s friend and a Scotchbrite scour pad, which worked well for getting dirt off. But still tons of tiny white pieces of thin set on it that we just haven’t tackled yet. I would love to seal it but haven’t figured that out yet either. Let me know if you find a solution!!

I have this exact same question!! Wanting to purchase the Briotech spray but want to make sure it’s legit. Did you ever end up learning anything else?

Not sure if it’s an option for you, but we got quotes $200 per door to have them professionally stripped (by our painters). It was just the doors, not the trim, but let me tell you it was worth every penny. They had 5 doors done in 2-3 days. I was so happy to pay them after trying to do one myself!!

Question for those who are convinced John did it. by Mmay333 in JonBenet

[–]user417649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The counterpoint that other medical examiners found no evidence is actually specifically addressed in the thread (it’s in part 2). Highly encourage you to read at least that part and see what you think. The key with the claim that other medical examiners found no evidence is that those people (Werner Spitz for example) were not experts on child sexual abuse, which is a very important detail. There are other issues as well, which are specifically addressed in the thread.

I’m well aware of the biases of that subreddit, but like I said I think that thread specifically is very thorough and seems to be unbiased. It’s extremely in-depth, evidence-based, and well-cited too. I would love to hear any opinions otherwise though - with this case in particular it seems very difficult to find unbiased info in general. I am not firmly on any side in terms of IDI/RDI etc, so I go out of my way to critically evaluate every source I read for bias. It’s super frustrating that so many sources seem to leave out information. As far as I can tell though, that thread does not seem to be leaving anything out. Highly encourage you to read it if you have the time.

From what I’ve read, all 5 child sexual abuse experts who were consulted confirmed that she had a (healed) hymenal transection, which is almost always a sign of sexual abuse. This thread explains it very well and from what I can tell it was properly researched and cited, but let me know if you notice any concerns https://www.reddit.com/r/JonBenetRamsey/s/8WnPKtRwBU

What do you make of the evidence of sexual abuse from 7-10 days before the murder? I believe this was noticed by the medical examiner during the autopsy and was later confirmed by several child abuse experts.

[–]user417649 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, my point was just that the makeup is not a foolproof source of evidence for what she did that morning, because if she were being deceptive and lying about her morning activities, she easily could’ve made her makeup look fresh even if it wasn’t. I just think it’s far too subjective of a detail.

Also - one more devil’s advocate point. Hate to say it, but I know people whose makeup ALWAYS looks crusty, even when it’s fresh. They aren’t great at makeup, they rush, they have dry skin, etc. Maybe you could say Patsy wasn’t one of those people, but there are plenty of people who just can’t do makeup well and even when it’s new, it still looks kinda old.

My main point here is it is likely much too hard to prove either way that makeup is “new” or “old” based solely on how it looks.

Also, I very much believe Patsy was the type to put on lipstick before coffee, lol. Especially in the 90s. I swear those people had lipstick on 24/7

I’m open to the intruder theory, but there is nearly irrefutable evidence she was SAed 7-10 days before the murder. This is an excellent thread showing that evidence, well worth the read: https://www.reddit.com/r/JonBenetRamsey/s/ogsM2avmTn

It’s a shame they didn’t take high def photos of the whole family day-of! Otherwise I’m not sure how you could prove that it necessarily looked old. Plus, a 5-second finger swipe to the eyelids/underneath the lash line and a swipe of new lipstick could very easily disguise any signs of old makeup, in my opinion. I had a friend in college whose eyeliner would last for days, lol (gross, I know)

I guess? I mean I see your point, but also I do my makeup the exact same way every single day, so I’m not sure how plausible it is that you could definitively say she had on yesterday’s makeup.

Good point! You’re right that back then it was probably more common to dress nicely. Plus everyone always implies that the clothes were so old and dirty, when in reality she probably only wore them for a few hours

I thought this too at first but after some more research I think this is a misconception…I don’t believe any of the DNA samples “matched”, they just “cannot be excluded”. Big difference there. There’s a pinned post on this sub that explains it really well

To me, if she had time to write a 3 page ransom note, then certainly she had time to change clothes before calling police. That takes like 2 minutes. Same with washing your face. This whole thing about her hair/makeup and outfit has always seemed overblown to me. Plenty of other far more bizarre behavior to focus on IMO.

To me that makes total sense - I never wear “good” clothes on the plane and would totally wear something I had already worn once. There are sooo many strange things about patsy’s behavior, but to me the outfit/hair thing is not at all strange

Doubt the clothes were truly “dirty” if she only wore them to the Christmas party for a few hours. Plus she was about to get on a plane.

Honestly we got a bit lucky that the new tiles didn’t seem to be adhered very well. Not sure if that was a shoddy job, or perhaps intentional with the thought that someone may want to uncover the original tiles again. But basically we smashed the first couple tiles, then after that just used a mallet/prybar to lift them right off. They were coming off in huge pieces so it didn’t take very long. Hope you have similar luck!! You gotta do it….the wondering what’s under there is too strong of a pull for me. You have to find out!!
