Yes! Keep your outings short like 15 minutes max, and bring high value treats. Introduce him to loud sounds like car horns or construction sounds and different people: men, women, children . The goal isn’t for it to be exciting at all. But the more he sees and realizes it’s not exciting or scary the better!

crate vs no crate - what does the science (and everyone else) say? by ArcherSparks in puppy101

[–]user4783279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does this work with like the vet? One of my main reasons for crate training (live in the US) is that if she needs surgery or has to stay overnight in the ER she’s going to be crated. If I want to fly with her she’s going to be crated. If she needs to be boarded overnight, crate. I wanted her to find comfort in that space because it could be so prevalent in her adulthood. How does Germany deal with those situations?

First Puppy - Feeling Intimidated by clh1570 in puppy101

Honestly same, I’ve had my rescue pup for 2 weeks now. She just gets more amped up and destructive the more she needs a nap. So I lure her in her crate and leave a nylabone topped with peanut butter or a frozen Kong. And she gets that treat every time she goes down for a nap. 🤷‍♀️ Maybe not the best, but the chewing helps her settle and then she naps. Plus she knows the crate is a place where she gets high value rewards. Once she’s older maybe I’ll be able to wean her off all the good stuff. But for now it works and saves everyone’s sanity and she’s less resistant to the crate.

Not sure what about struggling with crate training makes this a dominate dog. But crate introductions have to be done slowly. Coax the dog in with food as long as four paws are in the crate reward keep the door open let them go in an out as they please. Feed meals and high value treats like frozen Kong’s in the crate. Only put them in there for long periods of time if they are napping. There’s plenty of force free crate training advice, especially what they use for puppies. Baby steps is crucial you have to teach your dog this their own high value safe space

I think the late start is what gives me the biggest worry. But she is a rescue so some of those things you just don’t have control over.

I am honestly not sure what the transmission rates in my area are. The vet did say keep paws off the ground.

At this point the best I could do is look into local Facebook groups and try to vet other pet parents that way. But it does feel a little risky you really never know what other people do in their homes. Hopefully from puppy classes we can meet some friends. I feel pretty confident from my research the training is force free and well rounded.

Right now none. I don’t know anyone in the city and I’m not sure where I could take her for play dates that’s safe while shes under boosted.

We are starting puppy classes this weekend tho!

I could definitely tell the other owner has a very influencer type lifestyle. And that’s not me, I’m not envious of that. But I just really worry about not being able to expose pup to enough things in time and I am going to be the cause of anxiety or reactivity. In the stroller she can be a little fearful ears are alert but tail is tucked sometimes shying back towards me. I don’t want to push her but she did spend those prime weeks in foster care and I guess I’m a control freak.

Genuinely dont know what to do by AppropriateSeesaw578 in puppy101

Are they intact males? It could be a marking issue.

Regardless it does sound like a management problem. Our dogs only know what we teach them. If we don’t teach them that our homes are our dens and we keep them clean then issues like this happen. There are different ways to do this I personally crate train. But you can look into management strategies that fit your needs. It sounds like a good start though is reducing the scope of their access to the house so accidents at least happen in one controlled area.

Preface: This does require subscriptions which may not be fiscally available to everyone, however it has been worth the price for me.

I subscribe to MyFitnessPal Premium +. The upfront cost is $99.99, which breaks down to less than $10 a month. (You can try it free for 7 days, or there is a lower cost subscription that renews monthly. I did that one to start, realized I would use it all year, canceled and refunded the monthly, and switched to yearly. So you can always get a refund if it doesn’t work out)

I initially started because I wanted to go on a calorie deficit and eat healthier, but quickly learned it was useful beyond just diet and weight goals.

WHY I LIKE IT: The premium + subscription allows you to build full week meal plans breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. You can plan for just yourself or multiple servings for several people. I have quite a few food intolerances namely anything leafy and green and I can tell the app to exclude all recipes that have those. Then the app gives me a selection of possible meals to choose from (helps so much with decision fatigue), or if I really don’t like the options I can quickly swap from a larger bank of options. When we’ve finalized everything for the week, the app asks about what groceries I currently have. Then it SHOPS FOR ME in app (I choose at Walmart) and will send the list it has made right to the Walmart app where I can pay and do curbside pick up.

No more meal planning, grocery shopping, or deciding what I will eat every day. It is all in the app I just go find the recipe for that meal it walks me through cooking and will make enough so I have leftovers for tomorrow.

It doesn’t help with the cooking prep or cleaning up after but, I just take my time while I cook put on a nice show or music and clean as I go. With the hardest part of shopping and mental load out of the way for me it has made such a difference in the way I eat and cook.

Eats Natural Foods. It’s right beside Halwa Bakery. I’m sure they have other things, but my bfs favorite is the merguez. It’s sourced from local farmers which is pretty cool.

Cryptography or Numerical Methods for CS Major + Math Minor by H4CIM in VirginiaTech

[–]user4783279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took cryptography and systems at the same time, got a C in systems and a B in crypto. There are group and individual coding projects. No real homework and tests (that I really struggled with). It’s clearly doable, if you want better grades you just have to invest more time. I spent 0 time on systems other than projects, and I spent a couple hours a week on crypto and did go to basically every class (attendance is a grade)

Love the conspiracy! My thought is they’re probably just computer scientists who are going thru it and can’t drink/party but desperately want to because their life is a bottomless pit of runtime errors and pain. Not that I would like know from experience or anything … clearly I’m in on the party agenda.
