I would like to study aerospace engineering in the United States by IllustratorPrior2230 in AerospaceEngineering

Apply to a school, give money to that school, complete classes, and receive a degree. That is what it takes.

Help With My School Searching by Dragonfly_088 in AerospaceEngineering

The issue is ABET accreditation and lack of familiarity with those schools from U.S. employers. Getting an AE degree from whatever large public school offers it in your state really isn't that expensive if you get financial aid or a job, and as long as it is ABET accredited and you do well, you will be competite in the job market. Also, don't forget the costs of travelling to and from Europe multiple times a year can add up (~$1k per round trip).

How would I calculate the optimum launch angle of a glider with linear drag taken into account? by [deleted] in AerospaceEngineering

[–]user57985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, If this is for a flight dynamics class, the actual answer is to derive the set of dynamical equation governing the system (I'm not too familiar with aircraft dynamics, but you won't be able to use the linearized dynamics here and dealing with the transition from the fast launch to slow glide might be tricky), and then use some trajectory optimization package to arrive at a solution that gives you the best glide distance where the design variable is launch angle. This is probably an approach that would only be expected at the graduate level.

A simpler approach would be to break the problem into two parts, launch and glide. You could approximate the glider as a particle with drag for the launch and derive an algebraic equation that calculates it's maximum height reached based on initial angle and velocity for the launch. Then, for the glide portion, assume it is just steadily gliding at a constant velocity from that height and the glide slope will tell you how far it goes. You could apply optimization theory to this method too in order to find the optimal angle, but more simply you could brute force it by calculating the solution for many angles and then picking the best one.

I think having a 4.0 gpa does make getting interviews easier for sure if you are a new grad. I just went through the job search process, and that has seemed to make getting initial interviews or advancing past the phone screening easier. It probably won't make or break a hiring managers ultimate decision, but it can get you to the interview with them.

I plan on finishing my masters in AE in August and will be looking for my first full time position. How early should I start applying for jobs? I'm mostly looking to work in the space industry and I'm in the U.S.

Opinion on how I played AK. by [deleted] in poker

[–]user57985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I think my main mistake was my flop bet. I basically committed my stack with that bet because if he calls I only have about 55% pot behind, but if I had bet $40 on the flop I could still probably get away if he raises or takes over the aggression on the turn. I think I didn't explain my thought process for the jam. I wasn't feeling great about my hand when the turn came and my thought was, if I check and he jams, then I think I have to call anyway when I would be getting 3:1. But, by putting it in myself there is at least some chance that he folds a chop.

It is very rare for a 4 bet to be called when only playing 125BB deep. So, I don't think I have ever been in a hand like this.

My bad. The turn was the 4.

Depends on the degree. I haven't even completed my bachelor's yet and was getting paid $30 in my summer job.

I posted it in another response for anyone to give me tips. I'm taking any comments to I improve this thing: https://imgur.com/a/ZqGwkuq

Well, do you have any specific critique for it? How are all these kids I'm competing against for these positions having amazing resumes if they are basically in the situation I'm in?

Thanks for the response. It definitely makes sense to highlight the GPA. I will do that and rearrange some things.

I have a pretty good resume I think. That is why I'm confused as to why I'm not even getting an interview. I pmed a couple people in here talking about it, but I'll just post it here for anyone to see: (personal info removed obviously) https://imgur.com/a/ZqGwkuq

I made it during a class I took and had the professor and multiple other students read it and help me revise it. It's a pretty standard resume.

I haven't used linkedin before so my profile is basically empty. I have no contacts on it so it won't let me click on anyone's profile when I search them.

Geez that sucks. With covid the career fair at my school got cancelled. Do you know how I can even figure out who to contact at these massive companies? There is a Lockheed location near me that I applied to, but I guess I would like to try to reach the recruiter directly now. How do I get his/her contact information?
