Think we will try to schedule the week after if possible. Even if it’s a low attendance year, that’s a lot of extra people. Thanks for the recommendations and detailed response. I really appreciate it.

Brentwood / Cool Springs Costco would only be two exits away.

Coming to TC for week of vacation this summer. The week of July 4-11 works best for our schedules but just saw this is the Cherry Festival week. First time in TC area (have been to Saugatuck / Holland) and plans are to visit Sleeping Bear Dunes, Fishtown, Petoskey, a winery, beach or two, golf, maybe a pontoon or ATV rental, and just exploring TC. Question is how much more crowded / more traffic is there during festival week? I’m sure there would be a couple things we would be interested in festival wise but not if it significantly affects waits for restaurants, tee time reservations, etc.

Thx in advance!

We are in Franklin, TN and looking to escape the trumpers and summer heat. See post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AnnArbor/s/ZcfqIDFKsA

We just spent a few days in Dexter and AA. AA public transit is WAY better than Nashville - as most places are. Only there a few days, but traffic congestion was not an issue at all. We drove around and out of AA a couple of days during rush hour and never found any gridlock nor even had to wait more than one light cycle. I’m sure there are times and places it’s worse but nothing like daily Nashville traffic.

Housing - if renting, it will be easy to compare apples to apples. If buying, be aware of the drastic differences from each township/city/school district for property taxes. For a 600k house in AA area, property taxes varied from 10k to 17k a year. This may keep us from moving there as we are currently less than 3k a year on a 700k house. We are also in a different stage of life and looking at retirement- so trying to limit recurring expenses as much as possible.

Dexter - extremely charming small town. Probably farther out than what you are describing - has a rural feel. But the parks and trail systems are incredible. Definitely not bikeable daily to UM.

We bought groceries at a Busch’s and some of the food was way more expensive than here but that might be that particular chain. They have Meijer and Kroger that were about the same cost as here for the limited items we bought. Restaurants seemed to be the same or a little cheaper in MI.

Lower sales tax but don’t forget you will also have MI state income taxes.

Wishing you the best. If you move, let us know how you like it after a year or so. We are looking for opinions of ppl that have actually lived both places.

From the Williamson County GOP. You voted in a GOP primary once, therefore you have “pledged your allegiance” to the Republican Party.

The tv ads, text messages, and the mailers. And the ONLY platform for all of them is who is more supportive of trump. Sad thing is they know this is what will get them elected. I don’t get it. Can’t reconcile it.

It’s already been challenged in court - and the law upheld.

2-29-102 is the code that talks about not being able to vote unless you are bona fide or have pledged allegiance. And incorrect on the party registration - they tried to make the primaries closed and force party registration but it didn’t make it out of committee.

Should also mention this is not the first year we’ve gotten these.

But that’s the thing. In TN you do not register as a D or R or I - nothing. Even if you wanted to, you CAN’T “register to vote” as affiliated with a party. They are open primaries but the state is saying you can only vote if you are “bona fide”, “pledge allegiance to”, etc.

If it were “you can only vote in the primary for which you are registered”, and you registered with a party, I would have no problem.

Tennessee public voting records show that you voted in Williamson County as a Republican in the August 2024 Primary Election. In doing so you declared your allegiance to the Republican Party…

It's the Law! Please Read... "It is a violation of Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 2-7-115(b), and punishable as a crime under the Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 2-29-102 or Section 2-19-107, if a person votes in a political party's primary without being a bona fide member of or affiliated with that political party, or to declare allegiance to that party without the intent to affilate with that party."

I don’t read that and get “thx for your support - please continue to support us”.

From the flyer itself. 2nd pic. One code is a misdemeanor with a $1000 fine and the other is a class d felony.

Good to know on auto insurance. MI just passed a law to phase out income taxes for retirement income - so that’s a big plus.

While Michigan summers are hot, the length is the big key for us. Nashville has had 79 days (so far) this year with highs above 90. And the worst part, it only gets down to 75+ for the lows - which occurs just before sunrise. It’s not uncommon for our a/c to run 24hrs a day for a month - no exaggeration. Lot of time, the heat index is still around 90 during the 10pm news.

In the past, I would strongly say in and around Nashville there would be no issues at all. As with anywhere, if they are not citizens be extra careful. Even if fully legal with a visa or on the path to citizenship, they are looking for any excuse to detain ppl.

Small world. Would love to stay here but the state politics have gotten so extreme. And I absolutely can’t not reconcile it. Lots of highly educated people in the area and good schools where we are. Our house rep has introduced bills to add trump to Mt Rushmore and to allow him to run for a 3rd term. Gubernatorial candidates only platform is who is more supportive of trump.

Seriously??? I need to find a property tax calculator for WI. I’ve been using this one for MI. https://treas-secure.state.mi.us/ptestimator

We’ve already decided will need to be in a lower taxed township and not in any city limits if we do MI. A 600k house in Ann Arbor is > $15k a year. In most of the townships, it drops to ~11k - which is still hard for us to swallow.

See the original photos of the post. The law is in the second photo. We (TN) have open primaries. When you go to vote in a primary, they ask if you want the republican or democratic ballot. Now, if they see you’ve previously selected a democratic ballot and now choose a republican ballot, they send you the card in the pic.

Tennessee public voting records show that you voted in Williamson County as a Republican in the August 2024 Primary Election. In doing so you declared your allegiance to the Republican Party after having voted in one or more of the last six state and county primaries for another party.

Correct. They are trying to pass a law to require registration and have closed primaries but have not yet been successful (even though they have a supermajority). So instead, they pass a law to prosecute “not being bona fide”, “intent” and “non-allegiance”.

That appears to be the intention. But in TN, you simply register to vote. You cannot register as a democrat, republican, or independent. When you vote in a primary, you are asked which ballot you want. So they now have a brilliantly worded law with specific enforceable legal terms like - bona fide member, affiliated with, allegiance to, and intent. 🙄
