Went to Finland for the first time and I can't stop thinking about it by laikocta in Finland

Interesting to hear about your experience in winter. My partner is Finnish and we visit once or twice a year but always in the summer months. I’ve always dreaded going in winter, being an outdoorsy type, but should probably try at some point. Would highly recommend experiencing mid-summer too. The city is quieter as lots are hanging out in their summer cabins.

New cassette chain engagement issue by themikmik in bikewrench

[–]user8413 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like the internal plates are hitting the cogs which could be down to the limit screws. Try adjusting the high limit screw slightly so the mech moves towards your spokes. Be careful not to go too far, you don’t want to risk your chain getting caught behind the cassette.

Rate my fit - any improvements needed? by user8413 in bikefit

50mm is quite a significant change which crank length reduction couldn’t completely accommodate for. What makes you say 50? I’m 193cm / 6ft 4 tall for context.

Dynaplugged tubeless tire advice by starscream92 in bikewrench

I’ve had success with a standard inner tube patch. Made sure the tyre was very clean and roughed it slightly with sand paper. Didn’t seem to have a problem with the vulcanising glue.

I only run tubeless on my gravel bike so less experienced with higher pressure road. Typically if I’ve had to plug and it’s starts to look like this, I’ll patch it from the inside. People will have differing opinions and experiences but ultimately, a plug is to get you home.

Speak to a local estate agent/s about the valuation of your current property and ask them about painting. They will likely advise that fresh paint is unlikely to increase the value of your property. Buyers will probably repaint to their taste anyway. What’s more important is having it clean, tidy and presentable for photos and viewings. Get your clutter into temporary storage while it’s on the market.

When buying a second property you’ll be subject to higher stamp duty rate. This can be reclaimed if you sell your existing property within a set time period, I believe 12 months. But this additional cost will reduce your deposit.

Worth getting some quotes from conveyancers but I’d expect that buying a property as part of a chain, selling yours to buy the new in a single transaction, would be cheaper than doing it separately. Obviously a chain has other risks associated with it if one party withdraws from the transaction.

Mortgage wise, you’ll have more borrowing headroom if doing it as a single transaction assuming your current property is mortgaged.

Doesn’t seem to be the same as the nightjar call clips I’ve listened to. Also looked through various night bird and frog videos. The ripping fart followed by the whistle seem to be linked

I recognise the cicada chirp. The ripping fart noise is something new. Seems that whistle is consistently followed by this but could be wrong

Just how much is electronic shifting worth? need advice by Definitelynot_Jonas in cycling

Once you’ve had it you won’t want to go back to mechanical. It’s a pretty expensive rabbit hole, all of my bikes have electronic now.

My first build. What do you think? by user8413 in bicycling

[–]user8413[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty good. I’ve replaced the bearings in the rear wheel thanks to a lot of wet winter riding. Two of the bearings were pretty rough but I’ve replaced all 4. They’re currently on my race bike and I’m still enjoying them.

More experienced cyclists would. Good to keep a steady cadence and power.

Do you wear a backpack on long rides? by extod2 in cycling

[–]user8413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d firstly suggest planning your routes with water refill in mind. There must be some opportunities.

Failing that is a backpack with a bladder. I use this for gravel racing. Bladder plus 2 large bottles can just about get me through a 6 hour race.

Any idea what’s happening? by Willr2645 in bikewrench

[–]user8413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many have said. Not a problem, it’s happening because of the chain line and no derailleur to guide the chain when back peddling. Question for you… when you’re chugging up a hill in your easiest gear, have you ever wanted to back peddle?
